At a certain point, I don’t exactly know when, but maybe a few days after having done all main quests, the world stays always the same.
What I mean by that is enemy types in certain areas are always the same, chest locations identical, the same pathways opened / blocked or barricaded etc. Before, every run felt a bit different and seemed randomized.
Those variations were a big part of my enjoyment. For example at one point I had spike traps hidden all over Nameless Pass. Or at another the rating grew from safe to moderate, spawning many tough enemies and mini bosses all over the place.
Is this a thing that happens to everyone / part of the limitations of EA or is this a specific bug that only happens to some people? Do I just need to wait longer in game?
This is the same for all of us. Night and daytime enemies sometimes vary, but after completing all quests it is the way it is.
But i think that will change once new areas are added, lvl cap is increased and more story quests are added as well.
Be patient and grind some crucible runs

This is due to the fact the world currently “levels up” with you statically depending on story progression of how many bosses you’ve beaten. The endgame by 1.0 is to make it so that it will become dynamic again where some enemies will show back up you don’t see as often + adding in traps & more randomized chest spots
Alright thanks, so I’m not alone on this one.
I hope that Moon Studios will employ a “simple” randomization soon which cycles through different states over time (enemy amount and composition / loot positions / access routes / etc.) independent from changes coming from world progression through completing main quests.
It’s so strange because while playing my current save, it felt like there was already such randomization in place. I really took my time and farmed the same zones dozens of times before finally moving on with the story and I think I always got different setups of loot and mobs. I was almost Level 20 (!!!) when I reached the last boss.
That’s why I noticed immediately when the world stayed exactly the same (e.g. now there’s always one small and one large chest in the beach cave) and thought it could be a bug.
But perhaps said randomization only works in “mid game” currently.
Oh well, I just love this game so much. I have been gaming for almost 40 years and No Rest For The Wicked is already in my all time Top 10. I can’t put it into words properly, just how much I adore its design, world building, balancing, sound and atmosphere in general.
I think the devs have already made mention of the full system intentionally being turned off until we have more content to play with. We don’t know what and when the milestone will be for that.
I guess we’ll have bears and boars thrown in the mix by then, with plagued variants to go along with them. I wonder if we’ll have reskins of earlier enemy types for later on in the game. Just so that their models don’t “go to waste”, so to speak.
