What I would like

I have over 150 hours in this game, all played on SteamDeck! I played 70+ hours when it was first available, and then I resumed for the other 70+ hours maybe about one month ago.

First time I stopped at Cerim trials / the Crucible, could not get what they were about, and I also had a very bad build, my hero was very squishy. I finished the story up until it was back then, and stopped as there was nothing else I could do.

Now I finally finished the first set of 10 levels and defeated the annoying boss that is throwing you out of the arena so easily!

My character is very powerful. Not maxed, but very powerful.

Why not maxed? Because there is a big lack of information of how things work and what they do. It was easy for me to see what ice and lightning and fire can do, but I have a hard time grasping the plague mechanic. But I am powerful because I am using plague, because I got a yellow sword with this mechanic, Corpse Smeared Blade. Still, no idea how it works. I just hit and hit.

Actually, my build is based on damaging opponent when taking damage, because this blade is very slow, and mostly, by the time I get to swing the sword, the enemy is already dead on its own.

But, overall, because of this lack of information, I get slightly frustrated.

OK, so, what annoys me in this game:

  • when you fall to your death! it makes sense some times, but it is so very annoying when you are doing an action and you find yourself pushed to death, especially during cerim trials!
  • lots of options to customize your build, no idea what all of them do. Simple example: I only learned about/howto use fallen embers after 140 hours of playing this game… sad.
  • verticality is awesome, but map does not account for that, which makes it finding the pestilence boss very annoying. Please fix this!

The mechanic of fallen embers makes so little sense when compared to all other options in the game, for me it is obvious to have been added as something extra. We have so many crafting stuff, and yet, there is no crafting table to get your item and upgrade (re-roll) it by using fallen embers? It doesn’t make sense!

I wish I could read more in-game about what runes, enchantments, gems, plagued options are about, as they are right now, they are just “harassing” me. As you can see, I am a casual player, I do not want to open the big spreadsheet that the community created, and spend hours on it trying to understand what “the author wanted to say”.

I would like things to be more intuitive. Another simple example: armor set! What is that? How can I find out more about that? No idea! Check outside of the game, there seem to be benefits for armor sets.

Yes, I love this game. Playing 150+ hours on SteamDeck requires dedication.

But, yes, I am a casual. Too much mathematics and I get bored. I enjoy challenges, but when they serve a purpose, and not one to only spend more time in the game. I enjoy a sudoku game from time to time.

I enjoy the dailies and weeklies.

Overall, great game, great job, thank you very much for it!

It’s true that the tutorials could be clearer, and there should be an option to view all the tutorials that have already been presented to you in a list.

However, most of the things you’re complaining about already have a tutorial or can be read in the item descriptions, so it’s likely you skipped those tutorials and then forgot about them.

I agree that falling is a bit too punishing, especially in the Crucible.

I understand that there are some enchantments whose description is not very clear but the majority of them are simple and easy to understand just read them, It’s not hard to make a build that you can beat the crucible with (even if you only use gems which are weaker than enchantments) as long as you use a weapon you’re comfortable with and put your level points into the right attributes for your build.

Big changes have already been announced regarding the game systems that will change the way you build your character, Classes will be introduced, and level attributes will be changed or removed, with the intention of making the system more intuitive.

As for the enchantment system, there have been a lot of complaints from community, especially because of the RNG, then the devs asked for feedback on a change they wanted to propose, If you’re interested, we can talk about it here: New Gearing System Announcement Feedback.

This is a common problem, but in reality the game has a tutorial which explains what the various elements do:image, you surely heve seen it but you didn’t read it (it’s not your fault because this happened to many people, and there should be an option to view all the tutorials that have already been presented to you in a list).

Plague is not stronger than other elements, especially if you don’t have a perfect build around it. The unique sword you’re using is strong enough and has a nice and unique gameplay style, but it’s not stronger than other “well” enchained weapons, just because it’s unique.

Blue, purple, and yellow gear are more or less equally strong, but unique weapons (yellow) are often weaker if you don’t make a perfect build around it. Purple gear is potentially the strongest, but it has curses that make it harder to use.

There is no benefit to wearing a full set (other than the drip), I understand that other RPGs do this but it’s obvious that you won’t find information about it if you search for a feature that doesn’t exist.

thanks for reading my post and for you exhaustive reply.

it was very interesting to hear about the power of items based on rarity, it makes a lot of sense what you are saying.

and indeed, I am a casual player, for sure I read tutorials and then forgot about them (or just skip them), I play here and then, at most 1-2 hours once every few days, usually when I am very tired after a long day, so I have a limited capacity to remember one time things.

I will check the changes incoming, nice to hear about it, and also, this is an early access, I was expecting such changes.

my goal with the post was just to give my feedback, for devs to hear it.

I am very happy with the game, it is an amazing adventure!

My post sounds like complaining, but I am really happy to have this game and be able to play it. The complaining part comes after tens of hours of play, it is a very very small part of the experience. I am overwhelmingly grateful for such an incredible game, good job devs!

And I will end my reply by describing an experience from the game: when you chop down a tree, hit the perfect cut, and all the leaves on the ground, around you, covering most of the screen, react to your successful hit and raise from the ground for then to fall slowly back! Awesome!
