Suggestion: More dynamic parrying through different parry types

That’s your argument, not mine.

You forgot that regular attacks don’t need focus. Rune attacks do. Good ones: 100 or more.

The reward from parrying in this game is not “that single one boring animation that every from software game has” but “100+modifiers of focus” so you can do your own thing. The game literally says “I gave you focus, use it; build your char around it; go nuts”.

I don’t have fixation/fetish about riposte being that one special animated single purpose attack like in dark souls. I actually like that NRftW went slightly different route - where you can none the less execute special attacks that you normally cannot without first building that focus.

Personally I hope it stays this way.

well, the we have to agree to disagree. this kind of “ripost” only benefits rune play, it takes out every build variety that is focused on pure melee. so for players that like to get a reward that benefits other playstyles just don’t get anything out of it.

for me in every game out there that goes me the chance to parry, it feels rewarding, more rewarding than in this game. in fromsoft games u get a unique animation wit a crit bonus only available when parrying. in wow u can apply debuffs to a character when parrying, in monster hunter u get buffs on your attack power for a few seconds, and in the new clair oscure u do not only get your AP (focus) replenished but also a unique counter you can only get when parrying perfectly. it clearly distinguishes parrying from dodging. and every time i successfully parry i think “OH YES!!”. here i gave up parrying all together because the filled bar on top of my screen just does nothing.

parrying should be rewarded and feel like an accomplishment even when u do not want to use runes. if it stays that way i will just continue to never parry and always dodge. which is fine for me, but having different rewards for parrying or different parry types would give quite a lot of players the rewarding feeling they are missing right now. after all the premise of the game is to promote different playstyles and builds, not only runes.
