10000000% agree with OP. The constant nerfs have actually made me stop playing. More to the point the nerfs ruined multiple builds I found enjoyable. The game has overall become less fun due to the nerf mentality of the devs. It’s very similar/same to the way Blizzard nerfs strong builds in Diablo 4. Just anti fun.
Except Blizzard did it in a full release, AAA, $70 game complete with micro-transactions.
It’s seriously not fair to expect an early access release, from a studio taking their 1st swing at a SLRPG, to avoid balancing the game just to keep us happy.
Now, I’ll probably change my tune if the new patch nerfs the whirlstep-torch-focus-regen build that i just steamrolled to my first echo knight kill…
But please, let them do their thing and realize that stuff is going to change, and probably drastically. One day, door sidling will be a thing of the past!
Until then, relax, drink a beer and enjoy the ride.
None of that changes the fact that nerfing even slightly OP builds is just anti fun. It makes the game worse simple as that.
What fun is there to just stand there tanking and spamming the same skill again and again… trivialized all contents. Some skill combinations are just broken completely. Its not just slightly OP.
there are 3 builds in the game currently and they are still all insanely broken what in the world are you talking about? Rune spam, health regen, stamina regen all still work
No it means you now have to see what new builds you can/need to make & it doesn’t even make those builds unviable. The only time it makes the game worse “SiMPle As THat” is if you were bad at the game and are entirely relying on a spam technique in which case the other subset of ARPGs is perfect for you since everything is broken there.
You’re over exaggerating the strength of things being nerfed. Again even things SLIGHTLY OP are getting instantly nerfed.
Nah that’s lame and boring. It just results in those new builds inevitably getting nerfed. People will just quit.
As I said in my initial post, i think that:
- as early access devs should focus on playabilty issues and grafic problems. I am happy the patch has not yet been released because I am expecting grafics issues to be solved instead of getting worst every hotfix
- nerfing makes sense when you test the full scale game and not just one chapter. Personally the people in the end game phase that we are testing now should be able to clear quickly the end phase.
- nerfing now doesn’t make any sense and only reduces the feeling of power that you have after having grinded for hours and hours on a game that atm could be actually cleared in less than 10 hrs.
Exactly, I think the same!
i am honestly very thankful for the constant patches, hotfixes etc. sure, when my current main gets nerfed this char pretty much dies. but this is early access after all, so i just expect things to change.
i am also only playing early access for one reason: because the game looks so promising to me, that i want to be part of the “testgroup” and share my findings.
when my current main gets nerfed, i just see adjusted mechanics i can now explore anew. i can try other combinations and maybe find the next OP thing.
Sure, u can debate weather devs should focus on content or finetuning more, but there honestly is no golden ticket for that. both has advantages and downsides. Do you want to play a game with all maps and enemies, but a buggy and unbalanced pile of crap? or do you want to play a small portion with few features, but constant changes, so it stays playable throughout? or might u even want to play a super nice performing game at 144fps that runs smooth but looks like cat puke? more or less personal preference i’d say.
And i would never compare this in any way to diablo 4 and blizzard practices. i’d rather wish blizzard would have put their games in early access before u pay 70 bucks for a broken pile of trash
It’s extremely similar/same to Blizzards nerf philosophy on even slightly OP builds. They just need to let things be strong. It’s more fun when you figure out a strong build and get to keep it.
yeah but again these nerfs are, mostly, not completely destroying your build they just require more investment. On launch a single crow ring with high attack weapons could keep you topped up against even EK, to say otherwise is just lying. Now you need like 3-4 pieces of focus or stam regen or health regen to be invincible. The build is STILL THERE, you as a player just need to be more committed
u can’t compare a “finished” fullprize AAA multiplayer game with “as is” an early access singleplayer chapter 1 of an “indie” title.
and even if you do, don’t u think its better to nerf things out BEFORE people pay 70 buck on a presumably finished game, that isn’t even playable for weeks?
I am a huge fan of vote with your wallet. If you do not want a lot of patches and nerfs, then don’t pre-order, buy in early access or on release, just wait a year and enjoy it then.
to me it is a bit absurd to complain about nerfs when u clearly invested in a project in its early development stages.
but no point in arguing anyway.
i am thankful for the devs to be so active. and i know what i signed up for when i decided to support this project.
i can’t wait to experiment with the next built i have in mind. no matter if it gets nerfed or not
Games do not need to be complete for similarities and comparisons to be drawn. Nor does anyone need advice regarding if they should purchase. We are discussing balancing that overall feels bad in a similar /same way that it feels bad in Diablo.
So getting back on topic.
Slightly OP builds do not need nerfed into the ground. It’s OK for things to be strong.
yes, it is OK for things to be strong, but to adhere to many many different playstyles, every option the game gives you should feels as satisfying as any other build. so if one thing is much much stronger than any other build it will result in creating monotony (in a cross-section of all possible builds).
and a nerf does not mean you can’t ever ever use that build again. It just means it has been adjusted so it feels more the way the creator wanted it to be.
People tend to forget, that early access means “alpha” stage. nerfs and buffs are expected, wanted and needed, to create a product that when it is finished, feels satisfying for any of the given options. And that means that things that might be awesome now, just might be adjusted, so they are as awesome as the other stuff. nobody cut your arm off
It’s much better design to bring up weaker builds than to over nerf strong builds. We’ve seen a trend since release of overnerfing.
but it is also way much work to adjust every possible combination to your one and only favorite build, than just nerf what is currently standing out. this much must go without saying?
Completely incorrect. That’s the lazy way of balancing.
No it is not… you need a middle ground. Strength is relative here. This is like thermodynamics where you do not have a fixed absolute. This makes it so complicated.
If something sticks out you need to nerf it. If something is underpowered it is a good way to buff it.
If you want everything else to be buffed instead of nerfing the one thing that sticks out, you would
- need to adjust everything else
- end up with the same result anyway.
It is necessary. End of story.
