Stat requirements vs item upgrade level

Creeping stat requirements for items vs their upgrade level seems really limiting.

The coiled dawn I started with has a base requirement that hasn’t changed vs its upgrade level as I have progressed to level 15. However, a new coiled dawn doing the same damage at the same item level as my current one is heavily gated by intel and dex requirements. The requirements mean I am unable to swap to a ‘better’ coiled dawn, or really any different weapon.

Why would I drop the stat selection I have made just to lose 12 points to equip either a more optimal coiled dawn or a weapon that I haven’t tried? Seems like gear should really just fall at level 1 or 2 rather than a level 5 that is essentially unequitable.

This is really a byproduct of how OP health is as well.

Considering that respecing through the crucible is pretty easy to unlock, this doesn’t really seem like an issue.

Also, you don’t need the stats for a weapon to try out its move set. Its not ER where you can barely swing a weapon you don’t have the stats for. So just try out everything, decide what style you like, and respec into it.

It is a little odd that upgrading a weapon doesn’t increase its requirements at all but if it was the case I could definitely see some people accidentally upgrading a weapon past their stats and then being upset…
