Roots That Bind Quest bugged

Hi there!

I am running across an issue getting the Roots That Bind quest from Will. After the event in the city plaza after defeating Darak in the sewers I did not speak to Will and moved onto finishing the Nameless Pass and Lowland Meadows quest lines. I’ve explored most of Marin Woods’ map until I realized it needs to be unlocked via Will’s quest. When I go to Will now he’s located at the blacksmith station and will not mention anything about Marin Woods. Would love to progress the storyline without remaking a new realm if I can.

Me and my friend were playing in a co-op realm and were stuck after completing the Weeping Sisters quest. He had grabbed the letter from Casper without me and we started/finished the quest without giving the letter to Ellsworth or triggering the cutscene beforehand. No dialogue with Will triggered, we still have the letter, and Marin Woods is completely blocked off from progressing.

Thank you Safiyas!

Marin’s Village grated gate is still closed to you? (it should be since you don’t have the quest)

Have cleaned out all blight spores? (the abominations that keep the hands alive)

Silas

Hey Case, let’s work on this.

What happens if you go into the war room? (the original location to go with the letter)

Silas

Nothing, we just entered normally without triggering any cutscene, and can interact with Ellsworth but can’t give him the letter.

Alright, what did you mean with “Marin Woods is complete blocked off from progressing”?

Can you check for me if the gate to Marin Village is opened or closed?

Silas

Closed.

Awesome, thanks for the screenshot. This is grounds enough for me to escalate.

Can you please add your Datastore to the Google Drive link?

Thank you for your work Case, you will soon hear from us again.

Silas

Just added the Datastore folder to the Drive now. Thanks for helping out.

I have the exact same issue with a buddy on co-op mode. We also cannot go past the gate, but have cleared out all the spores and the little boy Will does not have a quest for us

Follow these instructions please: How to Properly Report Bugs! so this can be looked into!

Appreciate it Adhecard.

Hi Silas!

Yes I was able to clean out all of the blight spores but two main gates appear closed (one gate at the stadium where the big bird monster is and the other gate that had one blight monster leaning over it). I’m not at home at the moment to snap a screenshot of what it looks like but can when I am back if that helps!

No need for a screenshot!

I will escalate this now since stuff like this is a priority for Moon.

Thanks for reporting it Safiyas.

Greetings,

I have an issue with triggering the Roots That Binds quest even though I have finished all other quest lines required before it(check attached snapshot). I have tried everything and re-explored all areas but still can’t trigger Roots that Bind.

Please support..

Hey hattan,

Do you know what the sequence was in triggering this?

Normally you get the quest from Will, after the square cutscene. What happened for you?

Silas

Hi Silas,

I honestly don’t remember that Square scene being triggered after finishing the Sewer quest. As for the sequence, I went on completing the Nameless Pass then then defeating Darak in the sewers. I then went directly to Marin Woods to progress. At that time I understood I was missing Will’s quest. I hope that helps.

One more note, the letter key item is still in my inventory and the guy who gave me the letter still give me the dialog to deliver the letter so he gets his reward even though the quest is done.

Hey Silas, so I was actually Case’s co-op partner. Appreciate you looking into the issue.

I do want to mention that after getting stuck in Marin Woods in our first realm, we decided to start a new realm. What worked for us in our second realm was receiving the letter and IMMEDIATELY delivering it to Elsworth in the War Room.

On our first realm, we didn’t deliver the letter first. Instead, we completed Weeping Sisters in Lowland Meadows. I believe if you complete Weeping Sisters without first delivering the letter to Elsworth, it locks you out of Will’s quest and also locks you out of making any forward progress in Marin Woods.

Long story short, I believe to prevent this in the future, there should be some sort of barrier preventing you from entering Lowland Meadows UNTIL AFTER you deliver the letter to Elsworth.

Thanks again for your time and making a brilliant game.

Hi! I’m having the exact same problem, and I think it’s because after leaving the sewers, I went straight to Marin Forest.

I didn’t return to town until later, when I realized I couldn’t progress. After checking online, I saw that I was missing Will’s quest. There haven’t been any cutscenes after the sewers, and Will is still at the blacksmith with his original dialogue.

Help, please! How can we fix this? I don’t want to lose my world progress.

You need to complete both Of Rats and Raiders and Servant of God.

Have you done those two? Upon completion, return to the town’s square.
