Roots That Bind Quest bugged

In my case, I think that’s going to be the problem then. I haven’t completed Servant of God because I thought I had to advance on the map through the Marin Forest. I hadn’t found the correct exit from the city to continue with this mission, and I started looking online to see which mission I was missing. Thanks!

Complete it and report back here

Silas

Thanks for the addition! I agree, they will most certainly implement a fall back of some sorts, akin to what you are suggestion

Steve has also let me know that if this is not hotfixed, they will move you guys manually. Just hang in there for a bit!

Silas

Everything is in order, after completing Servant of God the cinematics and subsequent missions have been activated without any problems, including Roots That Bind, thank you so much!

Hi, I’m currently progression-locked due to a quest state issue.

I completed Weeping Sisters before receiving the letter from Casper’s owner (Tuvult). Later on, I encountered Casper, received the letter anyway, and since then the quest state appears to be invalid:

  • The letter is still in my inventory

  • Tuvult is still present

  • Roots That Bind never starts

  • Talking to Will (Fillmore’s apprentice) does not trigger the quest

  • Main story progression is blocked

This was discussed on Discord with Silas Inservio Pax, who confirmed this is a known issue and that manual intervention or a hotfix may be required.

I have uploaded all required files to WeTransfer. In this link you can see the log files, including Player.log, Player-prev.log, the DataStore folder, and DxDiag:

Please let me know if you need any additional information from my side.
Thank you for your help.

I did some googling and see other people have run into this issue as well, the only quests I have left are the one about the crucible and the one about the plague ichor. I’d rather not have to start a brand new world I just got this one maxed out on the stations and my house set up nice

Edited to add a screenshot of my quest log.

edit2: I just got the weeping sisters quest, should I not complete that?

edit3: I just walked down to where the smithy is and will gave me the roots that bind quest. I think I am all set now.

Wasted almost 40 hours just for this realm to be screwed because I never got the quest from Will for Marin Forest. Village gate is closed and I can’t do anything to open it without the quest, popped all the nettles and it doesn’t matter.

Before I make a whole new realm or submit a full report I want to ask if anyone who’s had this issue has had any luck getting it fixed or if it’s just screwed.

I’m not going to waste time going through my files and posting shit if I can’t find an instance of a bug report actually working and un breaking someone’s game.

I also appear to be stuck, unable to start the Roots that Bind quest.

DataStore folder and player log files:

Please let me know if there’s anything else you need.

The letter is for Weeping Sisters. Have you completed that map?

Roots that Bind you get from Will, the smith’s apprentice (Fillmore). Check with him to see if you can still get it!

@Keaton_Otto there is no fix currently for this problem unfortunately, I’m sorry!

You will have to start over.

Silas

We did complete the Weeping Sisters quest. If I recall correctly, I was exploring the sawmill area of the Lowland Meadows, and interacting with a lever in that area activated the quest. I then completed the quest before eventually finding the NPC that gives the letter. By that point, taking the letter to the War Room had no effect, and talking to Will doesn’t start the Roots that Bind quest.

You mentioned earlier in the thread the possibility of manual intervention by the devs to fix realms that encounter this issue: Roots That Bind Quest bugged - #23 by Silas-Inservio-Pax , but now you’re saying a player’s only option is to throw away a realm they’ve already invested dozens of hours in?

Hey Alan,

Yes you are correct. Normally Steve (from Moon Studios) moves people up manually, but right now he has let me know that is temporarily halted.

Paired with the fact that when there is a to big of accumulation of people on the same issue - in regards of halted progression, this issue is going to hotfixed instead of manual labor

I do not have an ETA for that however, I’m sorry.

Your Realm is not lost forever though, but it is paused for as long no solution for this problem is provided.

It is up to you to decide your next course of action!

Hoping to have been of service,

Silas

Is there a way to manually fix it? thats really sad to hear, me and my friends have put so many hours in one realm to be bricked like that… We did the same as other people, got the letter and didnt immediately went to the war room, and now we can´t start the quest.

After being stuck at the gate before Marin Village too I have some suggestions. In my case I missed to turn in the Servant of Gods quest at Seline. When switching between realms and chars it can get confusing to keep track of quest states.

  • After defeating the boss in the Nameless Path, could Seline spawn in the same room OR could she get a exclamation mark on the map?
  • After triggering the following cinematic back in Sacrament, could Will get an exclamation mark? Getting the Lowland Meadows quest is pretty straightforward. Marin Woods not so much.
  • Could you exclude the Blights (? those blobbies) from respawning once they have been removed?

Guess I’d ask for a little bit of handholding especially for casual players playing in story mode, that guide you with map markers for all main story related NPC interactions.

Hi Silas, do you any update on this matter?? (Root that bind)

Expect a fix for this problem in the next patch! That will be in a couple of weeks as per Thomas’s last words, no other info on that yet.

Silas

edit: not fixed yet, I should really stop promising fixes..

Hello,

So after completing the Servant of God quest we triggered the square cutscene but never got into the War Room to progress the Main Quest any further.
We wanted to explore any areas that we might have missed and we found ourselves in the Lowland Meadows, at this point we were able to explore the northeastern part of this area. After revisiting the Lowland Meadows we found a suspicious vaulting point that let us progress to the southwestern part of the area. Having access to this part led us to releasing the water from the reservoir and progressing the Weeping Sister questline without ever entering the War Room. I assume this might have triggered the bug. After completing the quest we were stuck with no new quests and no access to the Temple of Day and Night and past the village gate in Marin Woods.

Below you will find a (3 day)WeTransfer link with all the bug report related files you requested, including a video of the suspicious vaulting point and a few screenshots that prove my case.

Could you possibly hard initiate the quest we’re missing in our Realm? Restarting a new Realm couldn’t be the only solution!:anxious_face_with_sweat:

Thanks in advance,
K.T.
