I don’t know if anyone has written about this or not.
Recently, my friend and I completed the Crucible, and I thought there would be more to come, since there are statues and altars next to them, and each altar does something unique, but it turned out there isn’t…
My suggestion is to make it so that after defeating the boss of Crucible stage 1 (the very first altar by the statue), access to the next altar is unlocked, and so on, but each altar would have its own unique ideas.
Altar 1 - just like now, it simply offers cards with properties.
Altar 2 - no longer offers anything, but each time you move to the next room, it applies buffs to enemies, making the game harder for players. On room 10, there will be a different unique boss for this altar.
Altar 3 - has 15–20 rooms to reach the boss, but on every 5th room there will be a mini‑boss, after which you get to choose 3–4 cards to enhance your character for the duration of the altar/floor. Also, enemies become stronger with each room and automatically gain buffs when transitioning between rooms. The floor boss could have 2 forms: a normal one, and after you defeat it, a second form where it turns into a boss with a Mora effect…
Altars 4 and 5 — I haven’t come up with ideas yet
But I think for Altar 5 we could have 25 rooms with negative effects, a boss every 5 rooms, and also a handicap that you choose at the start of the floor for your character (e.g., reduced damage, increased weight, no rolls, no parries — basically any effects like those from Plague Charms or Mora effects), but they would be 50% stronger than standard negative charms.
I also suggest adding more room variety, using the same procedural generation with room templates, which would allow constantly getting different layouts. Yes, after 100 runs players might start recognising patterns, but future updates could also take generation from the game world and use objects from the entire game to build rooms for the Crucible.
Additionally, after completing Altar 3, you could add a feature to resurrect upon death in the Crucible by spending a rare Echo — 40–50 pieces. So you wouldn’t be able to use it every run, only when really needed, since it’s expensive. And since we have a cap of 99, you could only use it once (because you can only resurrect this way once), and this feature would only be available on floors 3–5.
I do understand that the Crucible might currently be trimmed down precisely because it’s early access, but I really hope that these 5–6 altars on the staircase aren’t just there for show… It would be a huge disappointment.
