Hey all, I know this subject has been discussed before and some people are for it and some are against it. I am personally not a big fan of forced wipes. I get the need for it especially in an alpha or beta. But it being in early access and a planned wipe on 1.0 just doesn’t sit with me right. I am hoping they do not wipe characters gear and such and maybe even progression or do a sudo/half wipe. I have spent a lot of time on the character and if there is a way for them to keep it and continue progressing with the new systems and quests when it drops that would be huge. Kind of similar to what Soulframe is doing. (keep character progression and gear but some systems may be completely removed or reworked) especailly for people that spent hours on a character and can only play 1-2 hours a day. What do you guys think about the forced wipes on 1.0?
For me personally the main argument is, that depending on changes to stats, classes, weapon perks etc. it might not be feasible to keep your gear.
Imagine you have gear that has an enchantment that gets removed in 1.0. what happens to that? will that be just deleted from your item, will it be there in text but not in function, will it still be there and cause problems in tons of following dependencies in the code etc. there are so many factors to consider.
i can see, with likely lots of effort, that it might be possible to keep a character, but what happens with attribute points, exp etc if that is massively reworked? how does 1 lvl with x-amount of Xp translate to the character development in 1.0? can it be directly translated 1 lvl = 1 lvl? how does a stats based character translate to a class, job or whatever based char?
you see where i am going with this?
I 100% understand the investment in a character! but i do also understand, that it is not always possible to just switch 1:1 when even the smallest mechanic changes.
