Fillmore pre-Warrick

In my experience so far, in both solo and coop, it’s rare to have enough currency to buy any weapons from Fillmore when you initially save him. This means it’s unlikely that people can buy the weapon of the archetype they want to play as.

My suggestion is for Fillmore to let us choose 1 item for free, as a thank you for saving him.

This would guarantee* that people can try their desired archetype from early in the game.

*if he gets 1 item of each archetype, which is not currently the case.

While it’s certainly possible to farm enough currency or to get a lucky drop, I think the new player experience will be better if people can always try their desired archetype early, rather than it being based on RNG/grinding.

This is effectively putting the character type selection from Dark Souls into the tutorial gameplay instead of in the menu

I like this idea. He already repairs for free, but only while he’s still ‘trapped’ there. Once he gets to town you have to pay for his services again. It would be nice to have some agency of choice in your weapon to use against the first boss, and that would be an elegant way to introduce a selection.

While it is true you can just farm the Shallows and Orban Glades, most players will likely just want to blow their way into town to gain access to the rest of the game. Having one free weapon choice before the boss would also help when the class system is introduced, giving you more agency over your class before the fight.

To be fair, I think it’s also fine if all his weapons are for free, as long as they have zero sale value afterwards (otherwise it creates weird incentives to buy+sell his weapons)

That way, if someone picks something they’re unhappy with they can just try and try until they find something they like. And from there, they’re ready to leave that 5-star review :ok_hand:

I think that would feel kind of odd, unless they are special makeshift (level zero) weapons which can never be improved. If that were the case, the incentive would be to replace them as soon as possible.

That sounds ok. Then again, I don’t see the issue with upgrading them. They won’t ever get a facet.

Alternatively, they could have a special “broken” facet, which is that they can’t be enchanted.

There are so many chests in the shallows that i actually find it quite easy to buy whatever you need from filmore. This may be abit different in mutiplayer but you can also get plenty of gear just from the chests.

Your idea of one free weapon makes sense though as it seems the devs do want you to use the weapon that you want to and not be locked into the fkrst weapon you find till you get to sacrement.
