A little detail I think might help you. When I am able to play an offline session, this seems to happen after 2 or more times of closing and rebooting the game, and changing VPN locations after each shutdown. All of this is without clicking on “Continue” or “Realms”, until I get the yellow offline warning text on the right side of the screen.
I’m from Europe. Playing on EU servers but also Americas with friends from the US.
I am also sitting in Denmark.
Temporary Solutions

Using a VPN seems to have solve the issue. I can now both start a local realm and also share one.

Without VPN, setting Steam in offline mode will make a local realm work (having the yellow offline warning text in the main menu).
Hello everyone,
I’m having the same issue. I’m a brand-new player from France, I just bought the game on Steam, and I’m stuck on the “Entering Realm” screen right after creating my character and my realm. I stay on that screen for about five minutes without any change.
Some new data for that bug, I can play if, and only if, I am offline, by steam.
Maybe this can helps you to fix it ! (ikd x) )
Can you try to connect with a VPN to USA? Join your own Realm or someone else’s.
After the initial entrance, deative your VPN and see if you can still make connections.

@Silas-Inservio-Pax I’ve now tested this during prologue. Deactivating the VPN during gameplay isn’t working in the long run. First it seems to be fine, but as soon the next loading screen appear (from the ship to the shore) the game gets stuck on a black screen only having the mouse cursor showing. Even activating the VPN again on the same connection doesn’t work. The only way to close the game afterwards is by killing it, e.g. with taskmanager.
So the game only works as long as the VPN connection remains active.
Update:
A VPN server from Norway is also working. Maybe it’s only countries in the EU that are affected by this issue?
Sadly my VPN provider doesn’t have a server located in my own country, but I think it would be an interesting test - if that would work. In that case it could maybe also have something to do with the ISP’s?
I see that @Cerim_Crazed also have this issue in the US, so I guess it has to do with Steam and some ISP’s? Come to think of it, I think I’ve heard of another game on Steam that required a “static IP-address” from some ISP’s to properly work. Could this be the case here and if so, why is this suddenly a problem on Steam?
I’m on linux (desktop and also steam deck) and there’s a fix for it (If you can’t join shared realms).
Delete the folder .local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata
Only the compatdata folder.
Switch the Compatibility to “Proton Experimental”
You can find the compatibility when you right click on No Rest For The Wicked in your library.
After I did that, I had no issues playing anymore.
If you bring up the on-screen keyboard the create new realm option appears.
@VanDrunen This doesn’t seem to be related to the same issue. You mentioned earlier that you had no problems with local realms and this issue involves both local and shared realms.
Hello,
I just bought the game and made a new character and a new realm.
When I tried to enter the realm, I had the same Issue as was previously discussed and was stuck for well more than 5 minutes.
I have uploaded the files requested on the “How To Report a Bug” thread.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
PS. When using a VPN (Poland Server Via ProtonVPN) the game works and I am able to enter the Prologue
Hi there!
I was playing with my friends and they faced the same issue with “Entering Realms”. We think it can be somehow connected to memory, as I haven’t exprienced this problem at all (32 GB RAM and the game itself is on SSD). Both friends have 16 GB RAM and they struggling entering the realm. They tried for more than an hour.
What actually helped them entering?
When I leave the realm and noone inside the Realm, they can join it. When the Realm contain no players, seems that the memory consumption decreases.
I will ask them to attach here all the necessary data for collecting the Bug Report dataset.
@Soul Sadly this doesn’t seems to be the problem in this case. I have 64 GB RAM and 16 GB VRAM and the game is located on a fast M.2 NVMe SSD. Still I could not play my own local realm without using a VPN.
I agree that RAM is not an issue. There’s something being lost in conversation between Steam and Moon Studio’s servers. I’ve also noticed that Microsoft Edge and Play Together are always activated whenever I open up the Steam app on my PC. Maybe there’s something there worth checking out?
Do any of you run an ad blocker or have network experience to see if there is an api or network traffic being blocked? i have seen that with another game.
No, the only ad blocker I have is on my Firefox browser. I don’t think ad blocking is the issue here, although it was a good suggestion. Moon Studios will figure it out!
Is this still occurring after the latest hotfix?
Yes. No change. I can only play by going offline on Steam.
May you provide your logs please.
No change in behavior with hotfix 4. Red orb in the upper right, no realm ever appears. If I go offline on steam no issues. I am in US West,
