[Combined] I am crashing and I don't know why

Hi everyone, I have been crashing frequently when I’m playing on my friend’s realm, there seems to be no root cause of the issue, and I tried the common solutions as well - things like

  • Turning off VSync
  • Capping framerates to 60
  • Installed the game on an SSD

Please let me know if there’s anything else you need, thank you!

Here are my files.

Hey MadKiefer, could you start troubleshooting by trying some of the suggested solutions in this topic please?

Thanks for the files! Since you are crashing, please submit your crash logs as well. Find their location by the instructions How to Properly Report Bugs! .

Hi,

I played the free weekend in January up to Level 8, around 8 hours. Now I bought the game, installed it again and it crashes, I can’t play.

I thought it might be due to an incompatible Savegame or Realm so I deleted both and started from scratch. I even deleted the whole settings folder under Appdata. Disabled cloud to start with fresh settings.

I put the dmp file into windbg and gave the output to the AI to be told to rollback my AMD gfx driver to the version before. All done, even complete game reinstalled after completely removing it and its settings.

AMD driver with factory defaults (all stuff disabled) also doesn’t help.

I’m out of ideas, never had anything similar with any other game.

Help would be appreciated.

Uploaded dxdiag and game logs here:

Thanks for your time.

Hey t1me, thanks for reporting this.

Sorry for the trouble the game is giving you, is anything helpful in this topic?

Could you get started with some suggested solutions and let me know if you anything works or doesnt for you?

I just got the game, tried to play but was crashing when hovering over the female portait.

I went to GForce Now to play there, created a character and started playing.

Now, when I launch the game on my computer (steam sync), it crashed after logo, just when loading the character list.

All files (dmp, playerlog, DataStore, DxDiag are here NRFTW Crash - Google Drive )

Version: Build Id 29466

The game consistently self-terminates. Most often in the Crucible shortly after an arena transition, but also reproduced in the open world a few minutes into a normal session.

each time Player.log starts spamming this error every frame: Graphics.CopyTexture called with mismatching data size (src (1x1 ...) dst (840x525 ...)) — down the full mip chain to 3x2 (matches render resolution)

The game keeps running under this spam for anywhere from ~20 seconds to ~15 minutes, then always exits with: Unstable environment, too many exceptions, terminating build.

Already tested — crash persists in all cases with the same signature:**

  • Moved the game from HDD to SSD
  • Both DX11 and DX12
  • GPU drivers updated
  • Different upscalers (FSR3, TAA), Dynamic Resolution on/off
  • Higher and lowered quality settings, different render scale
  • Game files verified in Steam
  • Windows Compatability

Tarod I’m so sorry for the late reply.

Has this been resolved for you in the meantime? Is something in this topic of use to you?

Hi @Silas-Inservio-Pax

Reinstalled computer, no rest was first game installed, no drivers problems, eveything updated, still crashes when going into character selection screen after hitting continue in the health warning.

Does not happen on GFN.

Do you want me to try something specific?

Hm is this your issue? [Combined] Game is freezing on Moon Studios startup logo animation, and closes

Silas

Nope, for some reason, rendering characters crashes the game. So when entering the game after the health warning screen (that is after the logo), it crashes.

Specs are pretty standard, Asus ROG z690, 32GB DDR5, Intel i9 12900k (not overcloked!) and an Asus ROG 5070 (not overclocked either).

I can play CPU Demanding games (i.e. Tarkov) without problems as well as GPU demanding games (i.e. Cyberpunk 2077) without problems). I don’t really know what can be happening. @Silas-Inservio-Pax :index_pointing_up:

Ah your wording threw me off a bit there, apologies.

Yeah those specs are much better then mine and I run this game quite fluently.

If you can please take a look at the first post, and check the ‘solution’ marked section, get started with trying those.

Just thinking out loud:

  • Any mods you have installed btw?
  • Can you get in if you launch the game with launch option parameter -vulkan?
  • Did you ever get through to the map before this problem started?
  • Can you disable steamcloud, clean out the Datastore folder and then reinstall the game. Check the results.

Silas

I managed to fix it.

I enabled AVX2 in my bios and suddenly it worked;

I remember I disabled e-cores long ago on bios and that prevents some avx workloads to be ran on p-cores unless allowed.

There you have the solution.

@Silas-Inservio-Pax

Maybe worth asking the devs to check if AVX2 is enabled at the CPU-level and fallback to a different calculation instruction if not.

Will do! Thanks coming back and letting us know what fixed it, I really appreciate that.
