The Breach - My Nitpicks

Obviously loving the game on a fundamental basis or I wouldn’t be posting here. I would love to see this project become my dream game so I’m trying to list some of my nitpicks here after “The Breach.” This information was gathered while mostly using a melee approached playstyle with Sword and Two-Handed Great-Sword.

  • Cannot hold attack button for a charged attack if another attack animation is still playing (you have to figure out the exact moment an animation ends to start inputting again)
  • Attack inputs are still being executed after a few seconds (as if they were in an input queue)
  • Poise system needs to have more (visible) indicators
  • Staggers are too difficult to impose on certain enemy types
  • Parries should have additional time windows which result in less damage taken from an attack (little too early & little too late)
  • Player leaping animations over gaps look bad (it looks like you’re already falling or you shouldn’t have reached that platform)
  • Player Inventory Max Stack Numbers for Items should match the ones from Chests (you can’t take out huge stacks of items from chests because it overfills your player inventory)
  • Chests in your home should be movable with items in them
  • Gems should be extractable / removable
  • Runes should be movable within a weapon to change their button layout
  • Rune descriptions need to be more detailed (use cost, damage, slottable into which weapon types?)
  • Rune attack animation previews would be nice
  • Weapon enchantments / modifiers feel boring (mostly %-changes to individual stats)
  • Permanent elemental weapon infusions are way too difficult to get now
  • Caves are impossible to navigate with 2-handed weapons only (pitch-black); you have to keep a spare weapon with ‘Illuminate’ or a torch (feels restrictive / unintuitive)
  • There need to be more Plague Ichor farm possibilities (after 30hrs I’m still stuck with extremely limited inventory space because you have to prioritize more important choices first (ring slots, etc.))
  • Add realm modifiers so players can have individual experiences in their realms (allow removal of fast-travel restrictions, timers, plague infestation rates, drop rates, etc.)
  • Add an option for larger UI (texts & the stamina and rune-charge indicators around the player are very small)
  • Regions should have more random NPC’s roaming around that give you a little dialogue / sidequest associated with an area (this gives certain areas more meaning / makes them more memorable)
  • Distant sky / horizon art could be improved (looks very pixelated)
  • The camera algorithm could be improved to show more of what’s in front of the player and not what’s behind
  • You can get way too many abilities in Crucible which breaks enemy AI (freezing) and overall results in a lot of buggy behaviour
  • Sound issues: overworld music and certain sound effects regularly break
  • Performance problems: 38-45fps in new Zones on i9-9900k & RTX-3080 (CPU Util 35% / GPU Util 70%) and stutters / freezes when loading new areas
