My thought after 100hrs on the breach

Hello everyone, I would like to share my toughts about the game after playing about 20h at the launch in 2024 and about 100h since the release of “the Breach”

In summary, I think the game is a very solid starting point and there have been lots improvements since the first version but there is a lot of little problems that make the experience sometimes very annoying

the +

  • Level Design is insane ! exploration and traversal are a real delight. this is clearly the main interest in the game.
  • Art direction and narrative is really good.
  • basic combat is very satisfying, brutal and responsive, animations are beautiful and there are really good feedbacks.
  • Character building is a bit weird but pretty creative once you understand completly how it works (with gems, runes, etc)

the -

  • Menus are terrible ! reworking them should be a top priority considering the time we spend in it
  • All the inventory system is pointless ! Reward for a though bossfight should not be more room for carrying more crap.
  • Consumable system should be improve too, being stucked with only one type of food and one type of utilitary is frustrating, considering the possibilties, i end up eating all my food and potion before bossfights to get all the buff using the menu and just eating fish dishes and standard bombs during the fight
  • we should be able to craft more food, potion and bombs with the same amount of ingredients as farming them is very time consuming
  • Enemy locking is broken ! even when pressing R3 to choose one, locking changes very often for no reason.
  • Input buffer for dodging is broken ! sometime going in opposite direction, wich has kill me multiple time in the Crucible.
  • Camera movement are sometimes very weird.
  • Stamina and poise meters should be in the top left
  • All the numbers should be explained in the character sheet and not just the basic stats
  • automatic climbing is sometime very frustrating, from setting on fire in the middle of the town because the character decide to climb on the little wall closed to the campfire to falling of a cliff because you miss one pixel of the top of a ladder.
  • more generally all contextual hitboxes should be enlarge (dialogs, top of ladder, doors, etc)
  • Loots are weird, why does a big boy with a big hammer drops a magic wand ???
  • There should be the possibility to buy some food in the crucible.

I haven’t notice lots of bugs except for one : every time i got into my house and left it, the utilitary i choose changes, and it’s very frustrating to use a reparation powder during a bossfight when all i want is throwing a bomb.

I won’t say anything about performances as i run it on a very old PC all i can say is that i manage to get it run in 1440p at about 40fps on a gtx980ti/i7-6700/16gbDDR4

In conclusion, i think the game is OK, Not absolutely bad but not absolutely great neither. Mechanics are good, systems are bad or pointless.
I will play the full game for its main story line and discovering the areas, but i’m pretty sure i wont play side content and postgame if all the little problems i mentionned are not reworked.

hope to be helpfull
cheers

You have a lot of valid criticisms, but the food part always makes me laugh. I have a cupboard back at my home in Sacrament that has all my cooking ingredients. I keep my character there at all times so that I can play in the realm of my choice while just exiting where I’m at and entering the realm of my home to cook my food immediately from the stuff I’ve gathered. It’s bananas less people use this quirk.

Just use one realm where you are based. Then any time you want to grab something, store something, pick up something, head back to your base. You can also use it to upgrade your stuff. Jumping back into your combat realm is easy because you’re right where you left in the realm, same as when you enter your base realm.

Hi,
I have considered this technic, but don’t really see the interest of having multiple realms
btw you still have to gather ingredients wich takes a lot of time, and if you want to focus on the Crucible for a long session, you just end up with no food at all and have to go to a big farming session.

So the only point I have to offer is that you have to gather stuff as you go. And since I’ve never run out of food ingredients, I can only assume that either you’re running through to explore or to fight and forgetting to gather as you go.

It’s true some areas are lacking in ingredients but there are areas before where there is plenty. Simply upgrading your chef and buying your recipes would help.

I don’t care for the crucible, but since I use life steal on any of my weapons as a prerequisite I don’t use as much food as one might normally. I have so many low-level foods stored away that any time I create a new character I just raid my pantry.

If you use the broken ruby gem on a weapon it grants life steal. If you use a rune from the enchantress, you can increase your health.

Having multiple realms is necessary to combat the broken RNG mechanics in this game. It’s just a need. When I start a new character, I start a new realm till I have five. Then once I get them upgraded, I have all the materials I need to draw from.

I now have five hardcore realms that I use to get my character up and running if I fail a hardcore character.

Here’s where I’ll back you up. Getting to that point is exhausting and more than enough to discourage new players or folks who haven’t figured this out. So I’ll agree this needs to change.

I use life steal ^^

but i’ve also tried to play with light armour for fast dodging, so when it hits, it hits very hard, the more i play the less i need food but the still, i need a little.
i got the habit to gather all i can when i do bounty or pestilence cleaning, but there is always a moment where i have to do a run outside just to get the high tier ingredient i need.

A simple way to solve that could be the possibility to have a little farm in sacrament, there is already one but no way to select what we need or upgrading it…

Gordon is still an option, but too expensive in early game.

The only thing i cant not deal anymore is lost all my food VS Bosses or Crucible when i cant kill them… I still thinking so serius the game need a checkpoint on Bosses and before enter crucible where if u die you respawn with all your wasted food. With this we will have sustain for retry all times we want a boss or roguelike mode without going for food… (farming food simulator is not fun at all, any any fun on that). And hardcore player are not going to suffer this because they can not die so they are not going to use the checkpoint.

I love the game but when i lost all my food i just want to unistall the game because farm again good food is a pain a hateful pain…

And the second thing must improve is have pestilence areas more faster and in more places. When i clean 1 i havent more to farm and we need that resources to upgrade the gear. More pestilence on all areas and respawn more faster… must be mandatory to grind and have a reason to play the endgame.

Repeat i love this game just write today a Positive Review on Steam to help. But i lost now all my food on double boss pestilence 3 and i dont want to play anymore, i mean i want play so much more but i cantt think on farm food again, i just want to harakiri myself instead of farm food.

PD: Chekpoints on bosses and crucible to fix this. Ty ty ty Moonstudios

I’m gonna say something Souls related…but have you tried leveling your health and upgrading your armor?
