Suddenly....A High ping appears!

Same problem, high ping and packet loss makes game unplayable

@Pubble
Don’t worry, it’s just as frustrating for you as it is for me :’)

For the DNS Cache : Unfortunately, I’ve already done it twice since yesterday and it doesn’t change anything :')

For the Taskmanager : I’ve got only The game launched, and the high ping is here too :’)

That’s reassuring! I felt like I was the only crazy person experiencing this bug!

Which internet service provider are you with?

Today I was looking for a solution and Nord VPN configured for the Netherlands helped me. Although there is no such problem in other games and there never has been. My internet provider is called OVIO and I am from Armenia.

I am unsure if this is a bug or some other sort of issue, but I am having a problem when playing on Realms with other people where the ping when playing will spike significantly at consistent 1 minute intervals. I have checked this interval with a stop watch.
My ping for the majority of play will be steady at 40ms-50ms but every minute on the dot it will spike anywhere between 600ms to 5000ms for around 2-8 seconds before calming down to the baseline again.
This makes playing the game excruciatingly difficult as if I am in a fight during one of the worse spikes it is likely I will die, which when you’re deep in a Crucible run is a horrendous feeling. If I’m not in a fight then it appears on the server side your character stays still, so the game will rubber band aggressively until the spike ends.

I suspect it may have something to do with the way the server is saving or retrieving/sending information as it is a perfect 1 minute timer every time. No other games or processes do this on my PC, and I’ve tested it on other PCs where it is easily replicated, and the spike will occur on two different computers with different players at the same time for the same duration while connected to the same realm.

I am located in Australia and play on the AU Realm servers as are the people I play the game with. We have absolutely terrible internet in this country, particularly in more remote areas. I very much suspect this would be affecting other players here.

EDIT:
I am also now finding that the Realm server gets easily overwhelmed when another player joins. Whoever is currently playing gets a ping spike going up to close to 7000ms before being disconnected before the joining player can connect at all.
Then both players will have the trying to reconnect screen which then gives an error and both end up at the main menu. It doesn’t seem to matter who was on there first, if someone joins then there seems to be a chance that it will kick both people and no one can play together.
This doesn’t happen every time I attempt to play the game, not sure why it does it sometimes but not all the time.

Hey King_of_Swords,

Could you read this topic and see if you can find anything applicable for your situation?

Would you please start with all suggested solutions?

Silas

I found this thread not long after I posted my own one actually, it’s a good idea to merge them as it does seem to be the same sort of problem.
I’ve gone through the various troubleshooting steps listed here as well as trying to switch around some of the more obscure settings on my router but nothing seems to make a positive difference.
It’s the only game I have that seems to have this issue, and I can’t observe any pattern in my networking that correlates to that 1 minute timer.

Finally someone who have the same issur :smiling_face_with_tear:

Friday, normally, I’m getting fiber optic internet installed at my place.

I’ll give you an update on whether that solves the problem or not.

I also have had this issue. I assumed it was from server overload on the free weekend, but it was even worse this past Sunday. I didn’t get out a stopwatch so I can’t say it happened every minute on the dot, but it was a constant cycle for hours of playtime.

I won’t have time to try any of the fixes until this weekend at the earliest, but it isn’t heartening that they haven’t worked for the other people on the thread.

I’m playing on the US server from the West Coast. My coop partner has had no ping spike issues from the Midwest. I’ve never had this issue in any other games.

iplay with my friend ping always goes from 50 or 60 or some time 80 the game work prefect every 2 min ping goes 7k or 3k or 4k i hope this problem get fix soon i can’t play coop at all because of this problem

Hi pyrmaidhead, can you try some of the suggestions in this topic?

Hi team, we are rly love your game
I’ve been experiencing consistently high ping (~260 ms) when playing No Rest for the Wicked from Hungary. This persists for long sessions (2+ hours) but only in this game — other online games have normal latency (~30–40 ms). A friend in Frankfurt has stable 60 ms in the same session, so it doesn’t seem like general internet routing issues. I have details and traceroute logs available if needed. Appreciate your help investigating this networking/netcode issue.

Thanks for all :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hey szgote, can you try some of the suggestions in this topic?

the bug shows up anytime I try to walk or run around, it’s like it’s blocking me. Hasn’t been reported by me before.

Hi !

Up this post !

I currently have the same issue (and i have already try all the solution proposed here, on reddit and other forum). I also tried to change the location server since ā€˜im the host in this case and joined the game of one of my friends (who didn’t experienced this issue yet).

Does any of you have found a solution ?

Shewolf

May i ask, when selecting your realm is the region set to auto or manually set to what’s closest to you?

Hi !

I also have this problem from Hungary . We live ~100km from each other . And our automatic server is AMERICANAS. We have the best ping there and Europe has 220ms . Even the automatic (Americanas) is 120 ms is the lowest . Any solutions yet ?

WOW !!!

I solved my problem . I tried only 3 simple things , IDK which one wroked , so Im’a list them all

  1. Cleared DNS –> CMD - run as administrator –> ipconfig /flushdns

  2. Verified Steam files.

  3. And what I think actually solved my problem is : that mothertrucker

    image
Which u can change in : steam , upper left , settings , ā€œIN GAME ā€œ , you scroll down and change that to 1000 ( I think that is more than enough !

Hope it can help you guys too :3

I gave the steam server browser pings/minute fix a go to see if it’d fix the lag spike problem but still no luck. Still stuck unable to play the game properly.
Really hope this can be fixed in future because the game isn’t playable with friends for me as it is right now.

Update : Me neither

Now it is getting worse and worse . It started from 120ms , now Im here … :C Please fix :frowning:
