In the last Wicked Inside, you discussed how a new world would need to be created to progress through The Breach’s new content. My questions are:
Will characters and their inventory be erased, or will they be able to access the new world with their levels and inventory intact?
Will we be able to access our pre-Breach worlds?
Will the learned designs for tools, armor sets, carpentry, etc. remain in the character if the characters are not deleted?
Will the characters be able to reach a higher level?
As I internalize all of Wicked Inside, I’ll post any questions in an orderly manner.
Many thanks to the entire Moon Studio team, and to Gareth Cooker for his contribution as a composer. If you could please let him know for me how brilliant he is as a composer and director. I love original soundtracks, and my favorite is Michael Giachino, and since Ori/Ark, he is too. With permission from the master, Nobuo Uematsu.
as i understood, you can only access the new content with a new char in a new realm. previous chars and realms will stay as “legacy” realms, but u can’t take things over from there.
which also in some cases might not work or might not make sense anyways since several systems, like for example the enchantments will get a complete rework.
i somehow seem to recollect something floating around about increasing the lvl cap, but i am not 100% sure if or when that is happening. so please don’t sue me lol
“Will the characters be able to reach a higher level?”
Sadly not. Thomas mentioned the cap was still level 30, just as Tier 3 items will still be the cap. The new zones are really meant to fill the void between level 17-30 that was left after the current campaign. Any content updates beyond the breach would be aimed for level 30+.
All and all, see the Breach as how EA should have released in the first place, some systems, like crafting, won’t be perfect, but the overall world will feel a lot more fulfilling.
If every content patch is like this (i.e. a complete wipe, no one needs legacy) then it will be the worst game in the last 25 years.
I hope in the future characters and chests will be transferred from old worlds, otherwise the game will lose 80% of its meaning. Why should I build and develop houses, farm things if they will turn into nothing in a few months?
This is why I don’t play games with seasons - I like a slow measured long game. And here there will be a game from patch to patch - i.e. the same seasons.
the dev team already said, that they will do this only of absolutely necessary. last update (the crucible) we did not have any wipes.
with the breach, complete systems like enchantments got reworked. so even if they would let u keep your stuff, 80% of it would not work as before anymore. so what is the point of keeping obsolete stuff, just to look at it?
and this is also EA. whenever people buy a game in early access there is a notice that things are still in development, will change and it might be possible progress is lost.
i understand the frustration, but i also understand the necessity to wipe the slate clean every once in a while. so for people who really can’t live without their broken items etc, i recommend maybe waiting till 1.0.
I don’t know how it was before. I saw that there were only hotfixes and that’s it. If it will only be in early access - that’s normal.
I bought the game the other day, but now before the patch I don’t even see the point in studying anything in it since it will change everything and nothing will be left.
It’s just that usually if wipes are implied, the game is launched for testing for a couple of weeks, and not permanently.
Regarding the license agreement - the game can close the next day after the release - no one ever promises anything, in any games)))
i know a lot of people are concerned because of the legacy realms and having to start fresh with the crucible, but the team confirmed it will only happen when necessary. and the legacy realms are surely a compromise so people don’t get everything “force deleted”.
i am also quite sure that seasons etc are not a thing that will happen here after 1.0.
sure, nobody can promise anything. thats just how things are during development.
i see this whole thing more like a motivation to explore all the new things fresh once the breach hits. i would not want to play the new content with my maxed characters anyways. i mean who wants to experience the story with a max lvl char and fight lvl 1 crabs with maxed gear all over again?
even the currently known areas will get new sub-areas, and loot drops also will get re-balanced, with drops now scaling with player and area lvl. so when u start fresh u will get better fitting loot, new things to explore, new ways to enchant and so on. in my book its well worth it. almost like experiencing it for the first time again. and that is a good thing (at least for me).
EDIT: and if u have more questions or concerns, thomas was so kind to answer the communities most asked questions. you can read all about it here: Answering some Frequently Asked Questions!
Lets all just remember, this is Pre-Release, wipes and restarts happen and we need to let the developers do what they need to do with the game. I very mush appreciate how responsive they have been and in fixing bugs.
