Progression loss after sharing a realm

Hello there!

I encountered some kind of realm save desynchronization yesterday night.

I had a private realm (named “Solo”, strangely) and a friend of mine asked me to share the realm so he can visit the shops, which I did, before disconnecting and calling it a day.

Today I woke up to my realm being in the state it was roughly a week ago: I was farming the endgame and I’m now back to the Weeping Sisters quest (obviously, all the items I stored in my house are now gone).

I read on your “Known Bugs/Issues” that there is a BACKUPS feature (which would have helped, I think) but I can’t find it. Also, I don’t know if the logs and the DataStore ( Unique Download Link | WeTransfer ) will be useful because I can’t find any data related to my realms for the 3rd of June.

Extra info: I already shared my realm once last week, I strongly suspect that “sharing → making private → sharing again” triggers that bug and takes the realm back to the state of the first sharing.

Thank you for your time and sorry for the bad english.

And if you make it private again, do you know if it will go back to the earlier state or if you have to continue from the realms current state?

:white_check_mark: sharing → :white_check_mark: making private → :white_check_mark: sharing again → :red_question_mark: making private again

Is it this Backup Feature or did you mean the old Backup Feature for Realms before Co-Op got released?

Be sure to read through the instructions before you download OR attempt anything so you know if it would help you or not!

You can always check if you can download your old save from your own Steam Cloud Storage?

It can be a bit tricky to find the Steam Cloud Storage so i usually access it through a Browser instead of the desktop app

I indeed tried that, and it didn’t solve the issue, sadly.

If I read correctly, that tool is for reloading an earlier character. My character is fine (max lvl + all my equipments and items), it’s just my realm that has been brought back a week in the past (it’s the lesser evil but I then lost all the progression on the quests and on housing, and all the items I stored in my house).

My friend suggested that, I browsed the cloud saves right away but sadly the only save I see earlier than the “bug” is from May 31st, which is kinda old.

There looks to be a realm save there from 4th of june at 190 kb because the others in the list is 14 - 17 kb Character saves

At What time did you share and disconnect?

Is shared realms accessible through steam cloud or local saves, i would guess they arent if your friend could access your realm while you slept?

Also make sure you check the Steam Cloud Storage in an internet browser, the desktop app isnt always a reliable source even tho they are connected.

Oops my bad :sob::rofl:

Yes, but the problem comes from 3rd of June at around 9pm Paris (so around 7pm UTC), so the first save prior than that is May 31st.

Well I guess that it’s accessible through Steam Cloud but I don’t know what’s done behind the curtains.

I did go to the website because you warned me earlier

Thank you for trying atleast!

I guess a mod can take over from here

Just some more information to add:

It is ok if my saved realm is lost (annoying, but ok, I just need to farm the items again, re-do the quests, the housing, etc.), I obviously wanted my save back but I mostly wanted to report the issue so that it can be looked into before 1.0.

I don’t quite know how saves work but my hypothesis is:

I had a single player realm which I shared once → somehow, a remote save has been done → I kicked the only other player, which automatically turned my online realm into a single player one → I progressed for 4~5 days on my single player realm and decided to share again with the same player → somehow the remote save overrid the latest save from my single player realm.

Maybe I’m wrong though but it could help.

Sorry that happened to you FailerFox, your inclination that it might be Steamcloud is what I suspect as well. We’ve had a few issues in that area already.

Since @askan94 already asked all the questions there is nothing left for me to do here ^^.

Thanks for reporting!
