I encountered some kind of realm save desynchronization yesterday night.
I had a private realm (named “Solo”, strangely) and a friend of mine asked me to share the realm so he can visit the shops, which I did, before disconnecting and calling it a day.
Today I woke up to my realm being in the state it was roughly a week ago: I was farming the endgame and I’m now back to the Weeping Sisters quest (obviously, all the items I stored in my house are now gone).
I read on your “Known Bugs/Issues” that there is a BACKUPS feature (which would have helped, I think) but I can’t find it. Also, I don’t know if the logs and the DataStore ( Unique Download Link | WeTransfer ) will be useful because I can’t find any data related to my realms for the 3rd of June.
Extra info: I already shared my realm once last week, I strongly suspect that “sharing → making private → sharing again” triggers that bug and takes the realm back to the state of the first sharing.
Thank you for your time and sorry for the bad english.
If I read correctly, that tool is for reloading an earlier character. My character is fine (max lvl + all my equipments and items), it’s just my realm that has been brought back a week in the past (it’s the lesser evil but I then lost all the progression on the quests and on housing, and all the items I stored in my house).
You can always check if you can download your old save from your own Steam Cloud Storage?
My friend suggested that, I browsed the cloud saves right away but sadly the only save I see earlier than the “bug” is from May 31st, which is kinda old.
It is ok if my saved realm is lost (annoying, but ok, I just need to farm the items again, re-do the quests, the housing, etc.), I obviously wanted my save back but I mostly wanted to report the issue so that it can be looked into before 1.0.
I don’t quite know how saves work but my hypothesis is:
I had a single player realm which I shared once → somehow, a remote save has been done → I kicked the only other player, which automatically turned my online realm into a single player one → I progressed for 4~5 days on my single player realm and decided to share again with the same player → somehow the remote save overrid the latest save from my single player realm.
Sorry that happened to you FailerFox, your inclination that it might be Steamcloud is what I suspect as well. We’ve had a few issues in that area already.
Since @askan94 already asked all the questions there is nothing left for me to do here ^^.
I completed the Twin Boss quest, delivered the quest letter in Sacrament, explored and unlocked additional areas of the map, including the upper and lower infected regions, and continued playing normally.
After that, I returned to the main menu and later invited a friend to play.
When I loaded back into the game, my world progression had been rolled back to the Twin Boss quest again.
The strange part is that my character progression was not affected:
* Character level was saved.
* Inventory and equipment were saved.
* Resources and loot were saved.
However:
* Story progression was reset.
* Quest progression was reset.
* Explored map areas became unexplored again.
This has happened twice already.
Steps to reproduce:
Complete the Twin Boss quest.
Return to Sacrament and turn in the quest.
Continue exploring and progressing.
Return to the main menu.
Invite a friend / enter multiplayer.
Reload the game.
Result:
Character progress remains saved, but world and quest progress are rolled back.
