[Poll] How often do you parry?

You can parry sirens just fine (you couldn’t before Breach), though those die faster than there is a point to it.

What do you mean by worms ? The tiny ones ? Yea they cannot be parried. (prooly due to their attacks giving tiny plague damage).

I have a “parry disabled” mod on my gloves, so that I don’t parry accidentally, because I can’t stand this mechanic.
I ran out of steam after beating half of Sekiro because of it. I played Sifu to true ending with minimum age, which involved having to learn to parry, and I’m never returning to that game.
Dodging feels good to me, because it requires spatial awareness and a bit of reaction. Parrying on the other hand requires repetition/rote learning, which I hate.

understandable. dont worry, there are things that could have made the game better. one of its biggest flaws is their element system is practically “same thing different colour”.

i do get where you’re coming from. similarly i will say diablo 4 is actually a GOOD game. but it is not a good “diablo-like”. its all a matter of preference. i will not try too hard to convince you other wise. i am just stating my preference.

coming from poe, i’ve learned to be specific with my wording. i mentioned diablo-like. not arpg. all diablo likes are arpgs but not all arpgs are diablo likes.

as for your comment on games now being infested with i-frames, the question becomes. how do you make players actively engage in the game? in poe you can eventually reach a state that enemy attacks DO NOTHING. you dont need to avoid damage and just stand there as your defence/recovery is godlike.

think about how the games would be IF theres no active dodge. players would have to max out movespeed in order to avoid damage. if block was a thing, then any build not using block would feel punished for not utilizing the mechanic. POE introduced guard skills which let you tank hits for a short time. but practically using a guard skill is more or less similar to active dodges where you activate the skill before you get hit.

not to say games where you become godlike arent fun. but i’ve actually identified that if i want that sort of gameplay, survivor-likes do it much better than any diablo-like.

just try to imagine this for a moment: it is in fact possible to make a game where you need to carefuly avoid enemy attacks that isnt based on i-frame dodges, or “one-button-defense” buttons

for instance have you considered you can have a videogame where you dodge attacks by actually avoiding their hitboxes? or maybe you have parry/block mechanics that involve more than just pressing 1 button at a timing regardless of context, or…

I have no qualm with fromsoft’s defense mechanics, their games feel great. what doesnt feel great is everyone doing a poor job of copying them, or so many games being very generic/derivative/repetitive in their defense cause theyre just copying other games in a blander manner, and fromsoft’s in particular just get copied ad infinitum. (Speaking of, one of the main ambitions of the director behind this game was making something unique because he couldnt stand people endlessly copying diablo/souls)
