I was honestly looking forward to farming pestilence areas after the campaign, but my first zone was the shallows. I cleared the mobs in the dark underground first and then the above ground mobs to see if the boss would spawn above ground, but no, the buffed up Riven Twins spawned down in the pitch black dungeon underground.
I use a two handed greatsword, so I can’t use a torch to see. I have to use the light enchant which has a timer, and after several attempts getting the boss down to 20-30% HP only to have the light enchant wear off while at the same time the entire arena is filled up with plague aoe blobs and dying because I can’t see what’s going on, I think I’m probably done playing until adjustments to this content get made.
If this is the intended design, maybe a lamp that can take up a slot for two handed weapon users could be put in the game so we can actually see in these pitch black pestilence boss fights. If you don’t want to do something like that and this is how you want pestilence bosses to be, then I want to see some devs on stream using a claymore to fight these bosses in the dark and show me that I’m just bad, or show me how it’s apparently supposed to be done.
any form of ele infusion/ enchant emits light…I recommend the infusion affix though, so you have a free gem slot for eg lifesteal and can save the focus for other stuff, but you do you…gl
edit: I am not sure, if plague emits light tbh
the radius of light emitted by infused weapon is way too small for these fights.
E.g. I just fought the pestilence version of the twins and you literally cannot see certain attacks because they are too far away from your character. Worst one is when he starts casting the poison blob explosion and the first one is guaranteed to be right on top of him since you cannot see him casting it unless you are true melee.

I have a heat infused 2h staff on my lvl 30 mage with pestilence 4 and have not used a single torch so far.
Having a heat infusion for a mage probably works, but putting an elemental infusion on a great sword makes the damage output a lot worse. like a fire infused great sword does less than half the damage of a pure physical 2H sword that scales off strength.
If I end up getting a comparable sword to the one I have right now, (I can’t infuse this one anyway because the gem slot is already taken, and the affixes I have on it are ones I want to keep, not to mention I’m not sure which affix I would need to re-roll to maybe eventually roll heat infusion on it), I might try out the heat infusion. But as BigOat said, if that ends up being too dark then I probably just need to re-spec and play a different weapon/build if I want to farm pestilence. But that’s what I was looking forward to farming pestilence for, the gear drops, so maybe back to crucible then?
I have read that quite alot, that people claim the dmg would go down, if they infuse their weapon. That is so weird, since in my experience, the dmg skyrockets after infusion. Maybe the singular hit dmg goes down, but the dps goes up. To be fair, I have only used fire and lightning this patch.
Good luck fighting in the dark though, you do you.
