Parry is just...... DIfficult

Interesting. I will weight class to my testing. Thanks for that!

That was sort of my point fron the start. The animation when you have a shield takes longer so it’s easier to parry. The animation with only weapons is a lot faster, so it’s harder to time. Now, after another 5-6h of playtime seems like I got the hang of it better, but it’s not what’s intuitive and it actually broke my parry in other games. I wanted to go back to Bloodborne and Lies of P to test the parry and it took me about 15 minutes to learn how to parry in those games again, because the visual and sound signals are timed completely different. Now I would say that it is not bad, but it’s not intuitive at all and for me it seems really wrong that I have a hard time parying with a 2H weapon, but can parry with the shield which would exhaust you in the first 2 minutes of combat. I know, it’s a game, nothing about it is realistic so … it is what it is.

That’s just my view I don’t say your point is invalid

Funny story, I was struggling against first boss for quite a while. So I tried parrying with my claymore. Then, after failing that I decided to see if a shield would work better. I didnt have any inventory space left to buy one from the smith who conveniently moved right next to the whisper spawn.
I decided to just test the parry without a weapon since I stupidly discarded my handed weapons.
Ended up working so well I beat it to death with my bare hands.

Parry is not difficult. You have to learn the enemies movements before to do it well.
The time window to make it right is good.

As many others said before me, if this were easy to do everybody would be parry everything and this is not the point.

To be a parry master you have to masterize before.

Keep going and you will learn how to do it more often.

Yellow Highlight Cue:

Use yellow highlighting to indicate when the boss is about to use an attackable skill
Provide a clear signal for players to prepare for a parry
Red Highlight Cue:

Use red highlighting to indicate when the boss is about to use an unblockable powerful attack
Warn the player to dodge or take other defensive measures
Disabling Cue Option:

Provide an option for players to choose whether they want this visual cue effect or not
Cater to players who prefer a pure, skill-based gaming challenge

I dont think parrying should be that easy. Its a pretty hard counter to an attack. In wicked this feels insanly good if you manage to do it.

Funny to see how parrying is a different experience for so many of us.

I played Sekiro and other souls games, so i was happy for the parry mechanics, but for god sakes it feels so difficult that I completely started to ignore it.

For me, I have the feeling that the parrying window is either too short or not working properly. Or the attack animations are too hard to read.

I usually “parry to early” and does not matter how hard am I trying.

There are some bosses, enemies with spears, etc. where it seem to work as it should, but mostly i just use dodge instead.

I personally started to enjoy this game when I simply gave up on parry and used dodge exclusively. It’s probably just me, but parry seems to be all over the place in reliability.

tbh i gave up on parry after i realized shield just does the same by just holding down LB. ez fix

Yeah I agree with both, it’s hard and it’s not. Parry isn’t perfect at the moment, I think it might need some little improvments, but I admit I like it to be hard, I like to be challenged, that I need to train, I admit I’m spend quite few hours dying trying to parry a single mobs at the beggining but now I can parry most of the enemy I may face during my adventure. And, in my humble opinion, I think that’s it is what a Souls-like kind of game must be. A game that doesn’t ease your progress but a game that make you learn how to play the hard way, by dying countless time on a single mob but at the end of the road, you’ve learn something more valuable.

I played Sekiro and I got the parry down on that (it is my preferred method rather than blocking or dodging) but the parry isn’t difficult in this but as others have stated is inconsistent. It seems to change even with the same enemy.

The trick is to parry when they pull their weapons back and about to hit you. The timing will get easier when you are more familiar with the attack patterns, except a couple fast enemy types like the one that dual wield daggers. It is very funny using parrying and pushing (heavy armor) the echo knight after you got good at parrying. Completely shutting down his attacks.

I think Parry should be hard to master, but, that it should afford more benefits than Blocking, because Blocking is (and should continue to be) easier.

It’s difficult for me too, middle mouse button is not ideal at all. Forefinger gotta travel from left button to middle button

I hope they will let us remap keys in the future.

Here’s my suggestion : each weapon has it’s own mouveset, so why not a different parry for each weapon either ? Or at least maybe some weapons with an easier parry so players could built there fighting style around parry’s depending on the weapon they use.

100% agree with the post. Parry in this game feels like RNG. I recorded myself to improve and I realized that doing parry at the exact same frame counter the same enemy attack, just doesn’t work. So, here there is an RNG or bug component, but even doing a perfect parry you don’t do a parry correctly. It’s not an opinion, it’s objective information.

Well, every weapons can parry, so I guess every weapons have it’s own way to parry. Like in real life, you don’t parry the same way with a shield than with daggers. This would make sens if they’ve push the thing to that level and that parrying is more tricky with a weapon than with a shield. I find myself pretty confortable parrying with shield, maybe because I use a controller ?

and you don’t get much from parry, no execution, no extra damage. not worth it

You can get a lot if you have affixes on your gear “get X on parry”.
Some very hugh benefits, but…

Most of the time its not worth to have those, because its hard to constantly manage to parry
