Lost a realm that was fully unlocked

One of my realms was reset to scratch. It was fully unlocked previously.

Hey Warlan

I was wondering:

  • Was this Realm created before Together?
  • When were you aware of the reset? Did you play recently on it before this happened?
  • Anything else of note?

Let me know!

Silas

Hey Silas,

The realm was created before the reset.

I was aware of the reset yesterday, I had been farming the realm fine since Patch 1. I did switch computers so it’s possible the log files on my old computer are ok? I know they sync so it’s possible that won’t work.

Is it something I can copy over from my old computer? I didn’t really accomplish much yesterday anyway.

To clarify, the realm was created before Together, but the ‘reset’, by which Silas probably meant your loss of progress, happened yesterday when you moved computers.

You were playing on it the day before, after Patch 1, so the realm isn’t older than The Breach and wasn’t lost due to being a legacy realm.

(I managed to misread Silas’ post at first too. My brain didn’t parse it as, ‘When did you become aware …’, but as ‘Were you aware of the …‘. You couldn’t have created a realm after losing progress in it, as it wouldn’t have been created yet.)

Sounds like it could be a Steam cloud sync issue to me. I’ve had that happen before when moving computers, especially when files contained absolute paths.

Local realms are saved on your PC, remote realms aren’t, so unless it’s a remote realm, you should be able to copy it from your old PC.

If you’re on Windows, it’s in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Moon Studios\NoRestForTheWicked\DataStore.

On Linux, it should be in ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1371980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Moon Studios/NoRestForTheWicked/DataStore/.

If that plan fails, you might also be in luck with the folder for the old game version; there’s essentially another backup inside the DataStore folder.

Thanks for the help Konrad. So I’m looking at the folder and there are a ton of backup files (.bak1, .bak2 etc). Some are Realm, some are Character. I see files dated to the previous date. How would I go about restoring that?

  1. backup that folder and call it old but then

  2. remove the.bak1 so it ends in cerimal?

I can even see the size of some of the files were reduced by 1/3rd.

Going from 277kb down to 87kb for the realm file.

Yes, delete the cerimal file without any number, and remove thebak1from the backup to reinstate that file to be loaded by the game.

As for the Steam cloud sync issue, that could definitely be it. A couple of problems with that currently.

Let me how if the back ups help!

Silas

It just downloaded the online version. How do I force it to look at my local version only?

Ah you probably have to disable steam cloud temporary for that.

I’m not entirely sure what the order is.

Probably something like this:

  • disable Steam Cloud
  • Go into game, load the file
  • close the game and enable again

Silas

not sure if I was doing it right but I couldnt go back far enough to fix that realm. Even when I disable cloud saves it tells me there is a conflict and when I select the local older one it ignores it and gives me a more recent option.

Ah sorry Warlan, then you’re probably out of luck. The back-ups only go back a really short timespan.

Silas

Just in case: What I meant is finding this folder on your old PC and copying it to your new PC. Your old PC might have an older version of the world.

(Should probably back up the one on the new PC beforehand.)
