We want to support Enchantment Rerolls and adding enchantments to items that only dropped with 1-3 enchantments.I think I want to streamline all of this into Fallen Embers. So that if you consume a Fallen Ember, you can pick any of your enchanted gear and can then select any enchantment you want to reroll. But you’d also see a little PLUS button at the bottom of the enchantments for items that only dropped with 1-3.
That obviously makes Fallen Embers HUGELY valuable again since they’re right now only used for respec.
And here are my thoughts about enchantments, just brainstorming as always.
Re-rolls are nice, but they shouldn’t be too easy. Otherwise, the excitement of finding a really good item will be lost. If re-roll is too accessible, players might just think, “Never mind, I’ll just change all the enchantments” instead of appreciating rare finds.
What if you needed another weapon of the same archetype and had to destroy it to transfer a specific enchantment? Fallen embers could be added to the requirements as well.
That way, finding Weapon X with Enchantment Y would feel even more rewarding.
For me, one of the ultimate goals of an ARPG is obtaining the perfect gear, both in stats and visuals. I don’t want to reach that point too quickly, as it would make looting less exciting.
Maybe this adds too much complexity to the system, but I’m still concerned about what I mentioned earlier.
Another though I had is the possibility of upgrading the enchantment NPC, similar to the blacksmith. The idea would be to make re-rolling more affordable through upgrades. You could increase the NPC’s knowledge by providing him with “books” or “scrolls” or another key items.
Additionally, you could unlock re-roll levels for the NPC:
- First level: The NPC re-rolls all the item’s enchantments, leaving everything to pure RNG.
- Second level: Only half of the enchantments are re-rolled, allowing you to focus on specific ones.(RNG)
- Third level: You can re-roll just a single enchantment (RNG).
- Fourth level: You select an enchantment and replace it with one from a list (very expensive).
I’m completely fine if the fourth level doesn’t exist at all.
And that’s it! Thanks for listening to a passionate Wicked player. Greetings from Spain! <3
