I’m sure this has been mentioned many times, but I’ll add my voice to the chorus: please allow an in-place/non-destructive reroll — for a cost, of course — for enchantment and infusion (and other similar systems). I’m all for some RNG existing in these systems, I think the randomness adds great flavor, but right now the overall cost is far too great, ESPECIALLY in terms of time spent. Farming and crafting enough items to engage with the system “honestly” while getting enough rolls to find the affix you want is an absurdly steep cost right now. The inevitable result is that this just encourages “dishonest” engagement with the system (e.g. savescumming) instead.
Certain players will always savescum a roll to min/max every possible outcome, that seems unavoidable. I’d like to believe that if we could reroll enchantments and infusions (etc) simply by re-engaging with Eleanor and re-enchanting/re-infusing the same item over again, overwriting the current affixes, for a price, maybe the value proposition on savescumming starts to look worse than “just” spending some additional coin.
So let it be written, so let it be done. Enchanting just fills me with a certain dread because it feels like 9 times out of 10 I make the item LESS valuable than having no enchants at all. I get plagued items many times, and especially at these early levels where I don’t have a ton of ways to re-gear/infuse/rune to work with/counter the plague it can literally make the item worthless for me.
Focus drain comes to mind. On my current character I tried it out and it was so fast I could never get enough focus to even cost a 50 focus ability. I would hit maybe 20 focus before stamina is gone and focus is gone before it’s back.
Fallen embers basically do what you want for enchants - rerolling without destroying. You get tons of these while leveling up until the last third of the game. The only time you can’t use them is when you have exalted an item, which can only be done later on in the game. Unless I am flush with fallen embers, say more than 20, I don’t use them to try to get specific enchants on gear. I use essence embers instead, which can transfer enchantments from one item to another. This makes all gear drops valuable. With essence embers being so rare later on, I only use them on enchants which are close to max.
In terms of infusions (gems), these aren’t random so I’m not sure what re-rolling them would mean. Gems are precious and I think having to choose between destroying the item or the gem is meaningful and worth keeping.
Yes, plagued gear can have some nasty negative enchants, which you can mitigate with fallen embers as well. I too have felt trapped by a plague enchant early game, until I realized I could just fix the item with a fallen ember.
How does that work? Is it an option on the enchant screen I haven’t noticed? I looked for some sort of re-roll option but didn’t see it.
Fallen embers are in your inventory. You use them and then pick the item and the enchant you want to re-roll. You can even add enchants to enchanted items that are missing some.
