So yeah, I spent absolutely all the leather I got during the game to make myself a hat I liked (at first a specific one, later at least one of several) with the mystic facet. It is a far more challenging process than I expected. Chances are too small.
Looking at the latest changes in the game, I think the developers are trying to eliminate such random things when creating a build. So I guess it would be nice to change items facets during crafting separately. Or mayby to add another ember for the facets.
By the way, does anyone know a reliable way to get supple hide or soft leather?
Tangent, but this is why I always backup my save files before I engage with the crafting system, I don’t want to find myself in a similar situation to OP here.
It seems like Marin Woods has lots of hogs, that might be a good place to farm. The Crucible also has wolves, and the vendor there usually sells leather pieces, that might help you rebuild. The honest truth is you’re just going to have to get back to grinding.
I dig it, and generally speaking so do I, but how many hours of farming do your dozen hats represent? It’s going to take you a while to get those materials back, and there’s still no guarantee that you’ll get the roll you’re looking for.
This is the reason I don’t engage much with the crafting system anyway, I barely dabble, it takes ten minutes to burn 20 hours worth of materials, there’s just too much randomness in the system for my taste.
In any case, I’m sorry you didn’t get the roll you wanted, and wish you luck in grinding the materials to make more! Don’t let my curmudgeon-ness distract you, you’re doing the right thing in the right way!
Fair enough. These were resources got from about 150 hours of play, I robbed two more characters for this. The main reason is that I don’t spend them anywhere else anyway.
Yeah targeting facets is VERY RNG right now. I generally expect to craft 15-20 items worst case scenario to get the facet I want. It’s strange that this was included with a reduction of RNG on enchants. So on one hand they made one part of gearing more deterministic, yet introduced facets which are just as RNG as enchants were before the update. My guess is that they viewed facets as a slight variation on an item, so allowed for this much RNG on something that isn’t crucial. But of course, players love to optimize, so people wanting to target particular facets should have been predicted and ideally accounted for.
Supple hide/soft leather is the one resource I find the most difficult to farm. Hogs or bucks are the best source I’ve found, and only in danger levels above 20. The bucks in lower danger level areas drop the weaker leather options instead.
