**CLARIFICATION: Build making/optimizing enjoyer
**
I’m aware of the of the feedback provided by others about this matter but I felt like making the point from my viewpoint
I bought the game about 1 month ago, currently about 60-70 hrs into the game, I play the game 1-2 hrs daily maybe more on weekends and i find the crafting/optimizing system so grind based that I have trouble thinking about making other characters/builds.
there’s basically too much rng involved for build making, from farming the rare materials to getting the right facet, embers & enchantments.
it’s simply too much grind for a single item required for the build let alone other random drops & I don’t have the time for all that.
overall i hope that the devs make some QoL improvements for current system because it’s draining the fun too soon for a great ARPG.
There’s some RNG, but it’s basically only non-controllable on the facets and on cursed enchantments.
You can pick enchantments from other items (which have to be cursed if your target item is cursed) and then apply them to your gear. Coming from games where RNG is king (looking at you PoE…) this made crafting a breeze for me.
I am all out of gems that improve enchantments though and I have no way to reliably get more, so there’s that.. will have to wait to improve my gear to the max. Yeh the QoL side of this needs a lot of work and bug-fixing T-T.
Overall, can you explain what your process is when crafting an item?
I don’t have a method at all also i won’t say that I’m good at it or anything like that, I just enjoy making reliable build for my self instead of watching tutorials for it.
experimenting different things in this game simply needs a lot of grind which I don’t have the time for, that simply makes the game one time playthrough for me which is not a bad thing, but i feel the game deserves more QoL improvement.
since i decided what build to go for until now I’ve never found the weapon I intended to make a build with anywhere (vendors, bounties, challenges, chests & …)
like I said to “Kyll” I don’t have a method, but the most annoying part is some builds require certain facets, and wanting a specific facet is a pain, would love to see some type of embers for facets in the future.
Oh yeah no 100%. If you’re looking for a more polished experience (without the bugs and usual hurdles of Early Access), it’s probably better to end the journey now or only play a little bit, and come back once the game is released?
Also, if you just want to get a build (avoiding the time wastes) and experiment to enjoy the game, mods are an option. Some of them enable endless rerolls and other shortcuts. No harm no foul in a single player / coop game =)
I wonder if part of the issue is the Path of Exile or Diablo elements. This game is placing itself in the middle of a souls like with technical combat and with loads of loot to make builds with. Some folks have only played one style and not the other.
There are many ways to get a good amount of embers for making builds, and once you have one that works well you can farm for the others fairly easily. There are plenty of guides out there on how to stack up Embers, but the one aspect of the game that is frustrating to me is the ridiculous facet system. So I am in complete agreement with you on that one.
I once crafted 39 chest pieces before I got the durable trait on one… We need to be able to re-roll facets, or to be able to scrap weapons and armour for part of the mats back that went into it…
anyway the Devs are listening to a lot of what the playerbase is saying, and hopefully they can find the right balance.
Either that or spend resource to heavily tip the odds. Want something more likely to be sturdy and have an aspect like bulky or durable? +1 iron to craft. Want something mystic or similar? Add linen.
Then you still get the slightly random aspect, but your desired aspect would go from being 5-10% chance to something like 20-25.
I totally agree with your concerns and as a die hard fan I stated my concerns about the rng system before here in the forums many many times. However I agree the fact that rng is a must but not like this aspecially exalt system is so unfair and makes trying different builds nearly impossible for casuals.
As a player who spends +4 hrs every session I play (+700 hrs in total) even for me its kinda overwhelming to try out new builds.
I totally love the new itemization with new embers but without the abilty to reset exalts on an item makes the whole grinding process from the 0 again and again. They must add exalt reset by gold and/or with pestilence materials and it can increase the value with every reset on the same item also they might add some special ember for reset exalts. Idk how will they do but its a must and it also must be fairin terms of respecting player time and also it must not be abusable by try hard players.
I 100% agree that there needs to be a certain amount of rng in the crafting system, it’s actually essential for the genre, but I think that there should be a way to increase your chance or even guarantee that you get the stat you want.
the current implemented system makes it that rng is involved every step of the way:
there’s some materials that have no guaranteed farm location e.g. wool threads, the best way of farming it in my experience is running crucible which could take 2 hrs to farm 10-15 of it
crafted item level is randomized
facet is randomized
initial enchants and their range are randomized (embers solve this issue in my opinion)
exalting enchants are randomized, and limited
I think a fair suggestion could be:
some materials that have no real source and it’s completely a random drop could be bought for unlimited amount with increasing price that resets per day
you can trade off item level and facet e.g. if you want high range of item level (12-16) the facet is completely random but if you want a certain facet the level range could be (1-5)
some way to reset the exalts without bricking the item
overall these are some suggestions i could think of, hope it helps.
