I absolutely love the gameplay, but only because I duplicated thousands of items so that I wouldn’t have to engage in the monotonous, endless grind of simple resources. I feel like so many people hate this game because they can’t upgrade their gear without wasting an endless amount of time farming resources that aren’t very prevalent. You need to boost the amount of resources gathered, and lower the amount required for recipes or your game will die. Only 700 players on steam playing at this moment… This is a 10/10 game, but only after you get past the stupid resource grind that feels painful and unrewarding. Without item duplication its a 3/10. Sadge.
I feel you, but this only became a problem for me when I wanted to get the best gear. You need so many enchantments, so many weapons and thus resources. Some animal parts are extremely rare. The grind gets in the way of the good gameplay sometimes.
Getting a good role on a weapon requires item duplication
What are you going to do with the gear that you maximize in almost no time at all now? Complain that you have nothing to do?
That is a serious question by the way. Because what is your incentive then to get new gear or upgrades afterward, when new gear does nothing for you any more.
Playing the game is the point. Spending time doing things, fighting enemies, getting resources randomly, is the reason to play the game. You do not have to get everything immediately, or have everything upgraded immediately.
Also with the new changes to the Crucible, you can buy many of the processed mats directly from the vendor.
Imo, the game will die if they make getting everything so easy that you can basically max about your character and gear in a day. Too often people complain about having to do things, then complain when they have nothing do to.
You are 100% correct. How long do people stick around when you give them god mode and the ability to generate any item with any stats? They stay long enough to see how things work and then leave and dont think about it. Ever.
On the other hand if you let them Earn their gear and their boss kills, it becomes something that they feel satisfaction with and a sense of achievement.
If someone wants to just open the game for an hour, defeat everything in 1 hit and then go to work, its their choice, but that just makes over half of the Game and Fun aspects of the game irrelevant.
Here is what my play time look like and I have never duplicated an item. 182+ hrs. And I still am playing and working on upgrades with the exaltation system.
I get on, and I play the game. Bounties, Challenges, Crucible, etc. When I have enough mats or resources from finding or buying to apply to an upgrade, I do that then. So there is a sense of progression as I play more.
I can feel the difference in my character strength and synergy from when I played a week ago because it is a gradual increase that I earned over time and game play.
I agree with the main point, but in the current slice of the game, there aren’t many activities and sources of high-tier components. It’s clear that the final version of the game will be larger, with more activities, but in the current build, grinding RNG for godrolls is not fun at all. Essentially, what I’m saying is that the current version of the game doesn’t feel like a complete slice of the final product. If they improve the ability to more reliably obtain the necessary items and components, it will significantly enhance the impression of EA for many people
I will agree with that last statement in case its something that changes an Item you already wear to play the way you like.
And yes, everyone plays at least a little different for all kinds of reasons.
I think that giving a player the ability to create w/e at will with console commands or otherwise, just takes out the feeling of achievement and the “I made this with my own blood and tears” (Or time sunk) into the game. To me that feels Deeply unsatisfying.
After the Crucible update came around, I did not find a single gear piece that had the stats/affixes I preferred over what I had before the update. And that just means that the way they changed the rolls/affix pool makes it Harder and less likely to get the gear which is as good as what we had before.
I am a bit sad to see it that way. But if I had to start from 0, I am sure there would be ways to combine said affixes to make a fun build to play.
I believe they they did that recently.
I’m okay with how resources are farmed mostly. They can expand upon it with new bounties for a Treant Minibosses or something. And, larger resource nodes. But, as @Sen mentioned we will get more in the full game.
The biggest issue I have is more to do with gear and enchanting. With the new update I wanted to try a sword and board Death Knight. Risen Shield and Governor Sword. Farmed for several hours did not get a single one. Now imagine getting them and bricking them with enchanting I cba at that point. I don’t mind farming mats and equipment at a reasonable pace. But, currently it is dreadful to make specific build.
I want to test new builds, but those should not take a dozen hours to even try. We should have access faster but perfecting and optimizing (affixes, exalting, runes etc) should take longer*
*not longer than what it takes now but relative to getting the items Hate the 100% RNG of enchanting.
Sure, this helps a bit, but bear paws and boar tusks are still in high demand. Additionally, obtaining resources from an obscure vendor might give the wrong impression of how this will work. But I don’t really know, maybe the devs at Moon are planning to make tier-six resources available only through vendors and random drops
