Hard crash, can't reconnect

I was just hopping between offline realms to consolidate resources, and tried to join my shared realm to see if I had some extra ores. Upon trying to load into the online realm, my screen went full black and froze. The game was non responsive, so I had to alt+F4 to escape. Upon relaunching the game, it was in offline mode and would not allow me to reconnect. I click reconnect and nothing happens.

After validating my game file integrity all files were successfully validated, and I was able to reconnect. The only difference now is all of my loading times are much longer. I assume this will even out over time, but I thought I would deliver the crash reports.

I just found this thread, which is probably where I should have posted this crash repot. My bad. Can someone (probably @Silas-Inservio-Pax ) please merge this for me?

You are sure you experience the same issue? People in that thread cannot get out of their offline mode.

They also have this banner on their main menu:

Let me know!

Silas

That was what I saw, but it seemed to resolve itself quickly. Let me be more descriptive.

After my hard crash, I launched into the main menu and saw that banner exactly as in the screenshot above. I clicked reconnect several times and it just flashed that banner again. I clicked realms and it just said “preparing realms” and nothing appeared.

So, I closed the game and validated files via steam. This is always the first thing I do when I have a crash that causes me problems, since there is always a chance that a crash during a load screen could result in file corruption. The files validated successfully, so I launched the game again expecting to still be offline. To my surprise, I was actually online after the validation.

I clicked the realms button, and saw the “preparing realms” screen again, which hung there for about 30-40 seconds before showing all of my realms normally. When I joined an online realm, the loading screen didn’t show immediately. It hung on a black screen for a while first, which worried me. Lo and behold, after some time passed it loaded in normally. So I realm hopped again, this time to an offline realm, only to still hang for a long time on the “preparing realms” screen.

I loaded back and forth again just to see if the black screen returned, and it does show the same black screen whenever I go back to the main menu. It does still show “preparing realms” every time, which it never did before, but the realms load in faster every time I do it.

I suppose this could be a different issue than the thread I linked, and I honestly do not know if I would have been stuck offline forever if I did not validate my steam files. All I am certain of is that I was stuck offline immediately after a black screen hard crash, and I was online after the steam validation. I did not have to change any firewall settings or any network settings. I also know that the “preparing realms” screen is something I never saw before the crash.

Hey Dean!

Can you elaborate more?

The game glitched, you shut it down by alt + f4? And now something is happening for you?

Are you permanently offline?

Silas

I was trying to sacrifice item for evoking whisper but then the screen seems to overlaying the inputs. So I couldn’t seems to get it working thus the hard shutdown. After that, i tried to resume playing using another character but it shows that attempting to reconnect lost connection page.

If you are using a controller you can try using your mouse to just add something to sacrifice with the mouse or just hit the offer button directly with the mouse.

Hey Dean, I moved your issue here.

Let’s try to resolve this!

Can you start by validating your files via Steam library?

Check the results afterwards.

If this does not resolve it, please submit some files for us outlined here: How to Properly Report Bugs!

Let me know
