[Feedback] Monetization & Microtransactions - Post Thomas's Interview

Hello all,

I recently watched Thomas’s (Dev) Interview with Elly and had an Idea I wanted to share.
Elly asked Thomas if he would add microtransactions and he point blankly said absolutely… no , it would ruin the game.

I agree ; however, I personally would like to support the dev’s with “reasonably priced” in game purchases (I hate buying merch I’m sorry, wont do it)

Another thing to consider is, it’s a single player game - why are we paying money for microtransactions - and to that I say. Shut up brokie, it aint for you. :money_bag: :money_bag: :money_bag:

Armor cosmetics, weapon cosmetics, pets, ETC - NO - it ruins the design of the game. What’s the point of getting an armor set if the coolest gear you pay for. Think classic wow, it was badass to see rare mounts/ epics. 2007scape and rare skill capes (slayer homies rise up :skull:), you knew immediately that player earned their stripes. Let players earn the coolest things please!

Thus, I want a microtransaction that does not affect gameplay or fashion, and is entirely 100% worthless so that people don’t feel required to buy it.

HOUSE DECORATIONS :potted_plant:

  • allows you to personalize the home
  • it’s purely decoration and only affects the smallest aspect of the game
  • lets me spend hours making sure a pot on a table is in the correct position instead of burning through content and killing the same boss for the 50th time. ehem
  • Just please don’t end up like fallout 76 where you get buffs/resources from decorations - absolute worst part of that game. I’ll pay $5 maybe $10 for a purple rug to make my house pretty, but ill quit the game if u add microtransactions that increases stats.
  • Need inspiration - check bethesda game’s modded custom homes. Think modded skyrim, fallout, etc - the amount of hours spent customizing the home is insane. Let me do that in wicked too. I will spend 50 hours placing food on a table.

TATTOO’S :artist_palette:

  • Covered by armor so it’s 100% worthless and you never see it
  • I have ink and want my character to have ink
  • Makes me happy

A PIPE TO SMOKE

  • Not joking, please add this… we ALL want this
  • if you smoke long enough, Thomas appears and steals the pipe

CUSTOM UNDIES :briefs:

  • Need I say more? Look back at the tattoo points

LOVE YOU DEVS, KEEP MAKING THIS GOAT GAME :goat: :goat: :goat:

I’d rather monetization come under the Guild Wars 1 model of paid mini-expansions. Some of them were like $10 for a couple bonus elaborate missions.

I’ll happily pay for DLC on this game regardless so longas it doesn’t feel scummy and predatory in the Blizzard or EA or Riot fashion.

If any form of microtransactions appears before the 1.0 official release of the game, its Steam reviews will undoubtedly be flooded with ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ ratings

Nobody has pushed for this. If you watch the interview yourself, Thomas immediately shoots down the idea of microtransactions or cosmetic DLC.

The only thing he has ever talked about is paid expansions AFTER 1.0 and as a continuation of the main campaign if the game does well enough.

It could be physical copies of the game, I think they did that with Ori. It came with an artslyle book, posters and things like that. Check for example the limited edition of Blasphemous. That is not technically merch, it’s the game itself. For the people that already have one copy of the game, it could be redeemed for a copy of the game in a different plataform or a future copy of the next one , something like that.

“Nobody has pushed for this. If you watch the interview yourself”

I did watch the interview myself. If you read the post yourself, I literally said this…???

That’s why I’m talking about the idea of harmless cosmetics like decorating your house. A meaningless aspect of the game

The point is Thomas may have never thought of this. You may disagree with microtransactions in general, but it fundamentally wouldn’t affect you in anyway, and would allow additional designers to be hired if successful.

More devs = faster game development = sooner releases = more content = bigger game = I don’t have to kill the same 4 bosses for the next year…

I was responding to the guy saying there would be a flood of negative reviews if they released dlc/mtx prior to 1.0, not you.

We don’t know, maybe he has. The point is that mtx are based on the fact that you are giving an extra to someone inside the package that you alreday sold, and other people are being excluded within an experience that they just bught. Personally, I don’t see problems of cosmetic mtx tho. Maybe they should parter with fashion designers and/or artists to create their own unique outfits with differents plate-leather-mesh-cloth versions. Some of the money could be given to the artist. But transmog should be implemented.
