My impression is that the fact that there’s a destination sub-menu when selecting fast travel at whisper (you first click travel option, then need to choose Sacrament) suggests that there will be more destinations to travel to, we’re just not far enough in the game yet with EA. Another town maybe? New map in the next chapter?
But certainly there should be an option to fast travel to crucible.
And I’m also on the “whispers should not heal” side. It’s not souls game, enemies don’t respawn, why should you heal then? That’s what consumables are for, and as it has been said already, there’s plenty of them in the game.
The current issue with whispers not healing, in my opinion, is that players can kill themselves (without gear equipped) to achieve the same effect. That said, it likely would be exploited much further .
Here are some (mutually exclusive) ideas to implement this:
1. whispers would heal the missing health (no more) upon interacting, but at a rate of 2% per second. This would give the player a boost, but would deter players from going back over and over as they would have to wait even longer for the full benefit. This could also be applied to resurrection for increased difficulty.
2. whispers would only heal the player once each BUT this ability would reset upon the player returning to town. This would add a dynamic of players trying to last until they reach the next whisper, which I think would make it more fun, and in my case would likely lead to more deaths as a result of trying to save food because I’m ‘almost there’.
3. whispers would fully heal if played on a ‘casual’ gameplay setting. I wouldn’t use this setting personally, but based on feedback I’ve read, there is enough demand that this is needed as the cost to implement would be well worth the added sales (this mode shouldn’t interact with the normal mode in any way).
It’s clear they didn’t intend on fast travel between whispers, but as the game grows I do hope they have multiple hubs to fast travel between. As mentioned above, this is likely the case given that we are currently presented an option of 1 destination - no point in asking where if the where is always the same place.
Whispers don’t heal because enemies don’t respawn when you interact with them ala every other souls-like.
While it is strange in concept to get used to Whisper not healing, there is an over abundance of heals in this game.
You can’t Whisper to any point you’ve unlocked because there’s no need, the map is tight, it takes ~2 minutes to get from Sacrament to any other Whisper on foot.
It seems by the Whisper menus that there will be more hub-whispers, similar to Sacrament, in the future that you will be able to select from.
By not allowing you to fast travel to any Whisper, you’re forced to run through portions of the world, contend with new, more difficult enemies… and you know… actually play the game.
Bumping this thread. Still can’t use fast travel to any whisper, which just feels horrible.
Why add so much unnecessary friction?
Let us go where we want to go. Why mandate needing to learn all the shortcuts to get to where we want to be, when you literally have a waypoi… whisper right there?
If whispers heal you, you can just ping pong between the next enemy and fully heal on whisper. Its not intended and I would not recommend to put fully heal on Whispers into the game. This is not Dark Souls, no respawn of minions, no Estus System. This game is different and put in TP´s between whispers and fully heal on them would make this game much worse.
Thats exactly the point. Ping ponging between whispers and a mob you are struggling with to exploit the healing mechanic. In other games like Dark Souls, all enemies are reset if you heal at a bonfire. In NRFTW you could kill one enemy of the mob then run back to the whisper to heal and then back to the mop to finiish the next enemy and so on without needing to consume any healing items. And also in contrary to Dark Souls, this game is getting a multiplayer too, which would also lead to problems in case for example your friend heals at a whisper and would reset all enemies in the realm…maybe you have just slain a difficult enemy and seconds later your ally heals himself at a whisper and your just slain enemy is back on his feet again. Thomas Mahler made a longer interview with a streamer which was recorded after the breach update between Hotfix 1 and Hotfix 2. This topic about whispers is also dicussed in this interview [and also other interesting points]. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/kUu7Z2tWPq8?si=n-KJjpbILoP_THlk
