Okay, so personally I dislike the whole RNG/respawning loot from chests in general and how that incentivises “chest runs”, but I understand that entirely removing that from the game might be too far from the Developers vision, so if we do have this system I would like to suggest a modification because the current implementation really detracts from the game in a bad way.
The issue is it extremely disincentivises exploration, the world is beautiful and clearly has great interconnected level design, I want to explore every nook and cranny and find every little secret. But man, it’s so dissatisfying to complete some difficult jumping puzzle, or find some hidden area only to loot the chest at the end and find… A couple crafting mats and a consumable. This means you always feel like there is no point, the better option is to just go to where you know there are multiple easily accessible chests in an area and have multiple chances at getting good loot instead of wasting time exploring or doing puzzles.
So, my suggestion - hand place (or at the very least heavily weight towards high quality) loot in chests the first time you open them, perhaps guaranteeing equipment or better quality materials. The loot could be chosen or be better weighted depending on how hard the chest is to get to, I think you already somewhat do this I’ve noticed some “better” chests, but it doesn’t change the fact that most chests don’t feel worth exploring for.
I really think that this would be a slam dunk solution to the problem, you get to explore and feel rewarded for it with equipment etc. but still keeps the rng way chests restock.
This has bothered me a lot since I first played the game back on initial release and immediately stood out to me again when doing my playthrough for The Breach, but I never seem to see anyone really talking about it so figured I should finally make a post about it.
Even though I have issues with it I would also like to thank you for the quality game you’ve made, there’s not really anything else like it on the market.
Cheers for reading, I hope some changes around this are made.
