Ember drop rate for old Cerims and Realms is very low

The Together patch brought exciting changes in Enhancements. However, I cannot maximize testing builds due to resource problem. Mainly the following:

  • Fallen Ember - reroll enhancements
  • Essence Ember - extract enhancement and transfer to another gear
  • Radiant Ember - strengthen enhancements

Fallen Embers drop rate obviously lowered after the update. The drop is so low that it has become unreasonable for the time and effort spent farming them.

I was told by other players in the official NRFTW Discord server that there were changes in the drop rate for older Cerims and Realms (the ones who completed the story line before the Together patch). Apparently, the change was the lower drop rate.

Some players that I interacted in chat said that the drop rate was good in their new Cerim and Realm (created after the Together patch). Some even suggested to create a new Cerim or Realm to farm in because it has better drop.

I do not understand the design philosophy if these claims and methods are true. Why are players who finished the game and are working on endgame builds rewarded with lower drop? Are they not supposed to enjoy freedom with builds now that they have finished the game? Why do they have to create realms again to farm? The drop rate of Embers should be the same across all realms wit, whether they are old or new. Drop rate should only vary depending on the realm’s difficulty.

I am not opposed to working and collecting things. I actually enjoy it. Listening to podcasts while clearing zones to collect Embers for rerolling gear enhancements has been my form of relaxation. To me it was enjoyable labor until the Together patch, which significantly reduced the availability of Fallen Embers. Before, I could farm 4-9 Fallen Embers per zone. Now, some runs go as low as 0 and 4 the most. Other embers, specifically Essence and Radiant are also hard to find in my experience.

Testing and Numbers

I have tested the drop rate in my original realm in the highest difficulty. Seven runs were made across four zones. Four runs had pestilence and three were normal. P4 was activated for more boss rewards. I have exhausted my ember farming by doing all chests, digging, fishing, shinies and defeated bosses in this test.

Shallows (pestilence)
1 - Fallen Ember (boss reward)
1 - Essence Ember (boss reward)
1 - Corrupting Ember (boss reward)

Shallows (normal)
no embers

Mariner’s Keep (pestilence)
1 - Fallen Ember (boss reward)
1 - Essence Ember (boss reward)
3 - Awakening Ember (2 from large chest, 1 from shinies)

Mariner’s Keep (normal)
1 - Fallen Ember (large chest)
1 - Essence Ember (large chest)

Orban Glades (pestilence)
4 - Fallen Ember (2 - large chest, 1 - small chest, 1 - boss reward)
2 - Awakening Ember (large chest)
1 - Radiant Ember (boss reward)
1 - Corrupting Ember (small chest)

Orban Glades (normal)
no embers

Nameless Pass (pestilence)
1 - Radiant Ember (boss reward)

It feels bad because I am hit with double RNG (reroll + drop) with worse rate than newer realms. META changes require experimentation but the patch removed my ability to test unless I restart with a new realm. Replayability should mean iterating on builds. Not restarting progress, portals, quality of life upgrades, etc.

Suggestion

The game should either normalize the Ember drop rates across all realms with the same difficulty OR add an endgame-tageted Ember source for finished worlds. Take Pestilence for example, it gives drop certainty to pestilence materials.

I thought the drop rate difference was related to multiplayer.

if what you say is true it’s definitely a bug.

I am using 6 realms for farming embers every day. Sometimes they sell up to 4 in one bulk.

I do also think they should ramp it up all over the board and after that Increased the drop rate in line with the difficulty. Normal = 20% increase, Hard = 40%.

How is the drop rate for you after the patch? And how true is it that the drop rate is better in new realms.

I created a new one, cleared 3 zones and only got 1 Fallen Ember. Came back another day and nothing.

I am only playing the game on two realm for questing. Quest reward is often embers. What I do is upgrading Greenwich to lvl 3 on all realms and check in every day to see if he sells embers. I do also check with the one vendor (can not remember his name) who only spawn in the evening.

This is a much relaxed way but still involves RNG. This method is shopping.
I wish hunting for embers in the open world has a more reasonable drop rate.
