I would like to point out something that has been troublesome to fully enjoy your game and it becomes even worse with the latest update of the Breach Refined (which is amazing btw thank you! )
It’s about the controller bindings, and especially the fact that we are blocked into the menu when some controls are not binded. As I understand the idea that a player should preferably have all of his controls binded, it would be a lot better to have a confirmation menu popping asking the player if he/she’s sure to confirm the settings rather than blocking completely the player from leaving things as he/she chose to be.
Why do I talk about this ? Because the default button configuration for controllers doesn’t suit me at all, I don’t like using the sprint button on any of the A X B Y buttons, so I want to bind it to R2, which I have used since the beginning of the game. The thing is, you added a new button for skills related to the player and not the weapons, in default set to R2, and that new button has messed up everything in the bindings accessible. I would love to be able to unbind the “crouch” control, because i never use that, and just put the player skills on that button. But the game doesn’t allow me to not have a button set for crouch…
So please, allow the player to make his/her own thing with the bindings, and just put a confirmation menu if you’re afraid that the player might make mistakes.
Thank you a lot for you consideration, and I hope it was not too difficult to read me as a french player, not in a habit of writing big texts in english.
I would just like to echo the idea that controller key binds need more work. I also stumbled with it with the refined update because I wanted a particular control scheme but with the new utility runes necessary button it became unusable. The toggles for runes and attacks also interlapped so when I wanted to use the heal rune, and the icon for it appeared, I would do the attack rune for that weapon instead.
I’m new to wicked and have been fighting the menus for 3 hours trying to let my character use R1 as main attack like in souls games. I’ve come to discover that if you dont’ want to use X as your attack button you quickly fall into a nightmarish hellscape of rebinding controls over and over again trying to get all of your inputs to work only to be one button short every time. For instance, if you try to make your sneak button X instead, your character spams croach instead of using a rune while holding right trigger or whichever key is allocated for “utility”. You may think this is easily remedied by different bindings but like I said i’ve been testing for 3 hours so if such a binding exists I at least don’t know about it. On a side note, the mechanic that all keys must be bound is fraustrating. Also changing a key to something that is already mapped removes the previous mapping which can quickly get confusing and is also very frustrating. I guess I can learn to play with X as attack but I’m stubborn and this has really made me upset.
Before the latest update, I used to have Run and Dodge bound to RB, but because of the addition of Utility runes, it’s simply no longer possible to use the shoulder and trigger buttons for anything else, unless I forego Runes altogether.
Binding other actions to the face buttons (X/Y/A/B) such as Parry prevents Runes associated with said button from being useable.
Holding down the B button makes the side quest progress tracker pop up on the screen, and there doesn’t seem to be any option to bind the quest tracker to any other button on the controller.
All of these issues compounded make it difficult and limited to alter the controller bindings to one’s preferences. I’m using the default settings because I see no other decent options.
Even as someone who’s played Souls games since Demon’s, I hate it holding down a face button to sprint. Ever since those games allowed the option to rebind controls, to me, it no longer makes sense using anything other than the shoulder buttons for those prolonged actions. It’s just far more comfortable.
Cause the latest change about B button, it’s hard to miss the pop-up of quest progress while running. Combine run with interact could solve it. Normally I use X as interact and RT as attack to meet the habit from shooting game. In addition, dodge could use X or B according to the need.
