Combo Linking System
Combo Linking is a system that would allow to switch weapons mid combo, allowing you to extend combos. A new Combo Linkers Menu will be available at every Cerim Whisper. From the Menu, you will be able to select one Attack Rune from each weapon equipped. Attack Runes are required, as for activating Healing Pulse or Enhancement Rune mid combo would be highly inconvenient.
A new Combo Linkers Wheel will be added to R2 on controller (Keyboard Key Binding TBD). X=Weapon Slot 1, Y=Weapon Slot 2, B=Weapon Slot 3, A=Shield Bash (if equipped and in use).
To activate combo linking, you have to be on the second or third hit of a combo, hold the combo linkers button, and select the weapon you want to link. That will activate the rune for the selected weapon as you switch, which will immediately allow you to start a new combo with the second weapon. The process can then be repeated a third time, given you have enough Stamina left, and Focus to Link. Combo Linkers use Focus and no Stamina.
Shield Bash* is move suggested in another topic. Shield Bash could be used as an interrupt, and would allow you to link the combo with the current weapon in use. Parry can also be used mid combo, and if successful, it would allow a combo linker to be performed immediately after for a reduced Focus cost.
I always liked how Bloodborne would allow the weapon to switch style mid combo. This would allow unique combinations depending on the combo linking weapon.
For example, after the third hit with daggers, switching to bow with Evasive Shot would make you dodge backwards and shoot an arrow, putting distance from the target. If switching to a Great Hammer with Balance Smash, it would link the combo with AoE slam.
This would allow the 3 weapons slot to work in synchronicity and the combinations would create unique load outs and play styles.
