Uninstalling the “Nvidia performance nuke” windows security update yielded around 0-1 fps on my system.
Re-installing the game several times did not yield any results (as was to be expected)
I think the main reasons for the horrendous performance is that there seems to be no LOD scaling, DLSS is fundamentally broken (around 1-5 fps difference from “max performance” to “quality” either on CNN or Transformer), resolution and or scaling also does not affect FPS in any way (see screengrabs in my last post), and “dynamic resolution” is also seemingly just an empty checkbox, because even if I turn that up to the maximum, my fps do not change beyond normal fluctuation of 1-3 fps when standing still in Sacrament.
Is there any reason why the floor texture has to be 4k at the fountain, while I’m standing next to The Watcher? … why?
The seemingly random nature of performance issues must be hell to pinpoint for the devs, so I understand why there’s not any actual helpful response yet… but damn, people, this is frustrating
EDIT:
Turning off “Optimizations for windowed games in Windows 11” yielded 10-20 fps improvement in Sacrament (Forge), up to 35 fps (!) in the Sunflower Field leading to the Lowland Meadows and an average 30 fps throughout the whole “Windmill” Area of the Lowland Meadows.
I’m confused but also quite pleased.
Will report back after further (longer) testing.
//EDIT 2:
After 5 hours in-game the FPS gains are completely gone and I’m even down to around 60-70 in sacrament and 24-36 FPS in the Windmill area in the Lowland Meadows.
I worked out what was killing it for me let me introduce you to: Discord Overlay!
That’s why for me I had no issue previously, because I was solo’ing the game and why suddenly the game was having a seizure when playing coop - I was on a Discord call with a friend.
This probably won’t solve everyone’s issue, but if you were on Discord and playing, go to options and disable the overlay. No more stutters.
We have had a confirmed case in Discord where someone’s performance was incredible boosted by using the setting CUDA - Sysmem Fallback Policy. (for NVIDIA DRIVERS)
Find it here: (SELECT PROGRAM SETTINGS, I NEVER ADVISE GLOBAL)
Disclaimer; this is not a fix for everyone, nor is it an official patch or resolution. This is player-to-player support where 2 users found something working for them. Please treat it as such!
I tried to launch the game on my steam deck and I got 25 fps in the same area (sacrament wall) which is, as you can understand, strange cause Steam Deck obviously less powerful than my PC.
tried to launch the game on my PC via APU and not 4070 super. Imagine my surprise when I get 2x more of fps than via 4070 Super.
I don’t know why this is a thing. It’s very unintuitive to say the least. How can it be that less powerful hardware gets more performance?!
I know it’s too much to ask but it would be nice to get an answer to my problem from someone from Moon Studios.
I’d like to share some performance-related feedback that I’ve been experiencing while playing the game.
In certain areas — and sometimes even in the same area at different moments — my FPS drops very sharply. After monitoring my system, I noticed that this seems to be directly related to GPU usage.
Normally, my GPU runs at around 100% usage, and the game performs smoothly. However, in some situations or specific locations, the GPU usage suddenly drops to around 50%, and when this happens, my FPS also drops drastically.
What’s interesting is that this doesn’t always happen consistently:
The same area can sometimes run at 100% GPU usage with good FPS
And at other times, in that very same area, GPU usage drops to ~50%, causing major FPS loss
This makes the performance feel unstable and unpredictable, even without any obvious changes happening on screen.
I’m not sure if this is related to CPU bottlenecking, streaming/loading behavior, or some kind of optimization issue, but I wanted to report it since it has a noticeable impact on gameplay.
Hopefully this feedback helps identify and improve performance consistency as development continues.
Thanks for the hard work on the game!
Performance issues are tough to handle, and they have many causes.
Reports like these are all being hoarded and whereable a fix will come in time, but this isn’t a "I report this and you can expect a fix next week” situation, I’m sorry about that Peter!
I don’t want to put my thoughts in their mouth but I don’t think we want to see fixes being made right away.
For me I want at least a message from dev team that this is the known issues and they at least have it in backlog (“in development” would be better ofc).
No disrespect to you, but you are forum moderator. So kinda not Moon Studios official, if you know what I mean.
I’d be tempted to say - given the amount of performance issue related feedback - that even if it’s not “easy to fix” that should be the top priority before even implementing more content. I mean, it’s one thing to buy an incomplete, occasionnaly bugged game, it’s a all other story to get an almost unplayable game for that price. But that’s my humble opinion.
No decent modern rig should experience sub 30fps drops and silent back to desktop crashes.
guys i got problame with game drop fps random my pc 4060ti and game i ssd how ifix this issue i redownload the game try so many stuff nothing work all this happen when finish the last quest
@Silas-Inservio-Pax Hey. Just want to ask. Does anyone from Moon know about this topic? Considering the amount of new threads on the forum this one might be lost and devs doesn’t know about the issues we faced during our gameplay.
Thing’s aren’t getting burried, no worries. If new developments occur on your side I’m basically telling them “hey they found something interesting/helpful for those issues”.
Performance issues are less cut and dry then “fix this collision barrier” but I expect a great many optimizations with Patch 1 coming up.
Sounds like your GPU has a software error or hardware error or that it doesn’t get enough power through the motherboard from the PSU, i mean it! this can fry your system if it goes unchecked..
I have the same issue with random fps drops. What I noticed, however, is that total cpu usige reports low. This fooled me for a bit before I went to check usage of cpu cores. The first 5 cores report 90% to 100% usage on my 5800x3d. This seems to tank the fps and GPU usage.
Me again. I don’t know what happened (I haven’t seen [or “didn’t see”] any update). So right now in the same area I mentioned before I get 50-55 fps (previously it was unplayable 9).
Hey chyy1324, these are tough case but I’m just going to rif off as many things I can think of, alright?
These solutions have all been confirmed to work for at least 1 person.
run the game.exe as Administrator, check the results
disable overlays (Nvidia, Steam, Discord) and check the results
reinstall your GPU drivers
Nvidia: go into your Control Panel - Manage 3D settings - Program Settings - scroll to CUDA Sysmem Fallback Policy, and set it to “prefer no Sysmem Fallback”
disable any optmising profiles you have done via Nvidia App
If you can also please scroll this topic for user suggestions!
