Well, it almost works. I can get into the game’s main menu without crashing.
But I can’t interact with the game menu. The only thing I can do is rotate the silhouette of the new character with the right mouse button. Other than that, there’s nothing I can do, either with the mouse, or the keyboard.
Any ideas why this is happening?

Hi, i’am about 4 months tring to play the game, but every time when i open my game closes after the moon logo, i tried every fix in the forum but no one fixed my game, i called stafs in discord sharing my game archives and no solution….

Well, i have some good news we have come across a potential fix. Right now its in testing, on this beta branch: a409vH5xeuumhhs
Give that a try and get back to me, if it works we will push it in.
So far 3-4 people have told me it got them past. So fingers crossed!
Thanks, my game also crashed after the Moon Studios logo. I don’t know why, maybe because the processor didn’t support some instructions. But in this experimental beta version a409vH5xeuumhhs, the game started to load, but in the main version, the game crashes. Yes, I saw a post that you rolled back this change, but I hope in the future, you will return this change to the main version of the game. Thanks again!
After the rollback, is there an estimated date for when the official version will be back with this bug fixed? I’d like to return to the game and start leveling up a character. I don’t want to do it on a test server (I understand the character won’t work on the official version).
Unfortunately no estimated date as main focus is getting multiplayer ready. Hopefully we can get a quick hotfix in for this soon.

You can transfer those characters quite easily (it is a simple file move).
To transfer your character back to live, find the following location:

Main Drive - Users - [username] - AppData - LocalLow - NoRestForTheWicked - Datastore,

You might have multiple 5-digit folders here. The build for Experimental is 24814. Live build is currently: {24313},

Since you have played on Experimental, we will need copy your character .dat file from there, to Live. If 24814 has only one character_[numbers].dat file, you can safely copy/cut that into the latest Live build, and voila, you are done!,

If not, sort the folder by “date modified”. If you are still unsure which character is your top one, boot up the game, log in with the character you want to transfer, and immediately close the game again. Now your character file that has been used latest will be on top. Take that file into Live, and you are done as well!
What this means for you:
You can keep on playing on Experimental until the next hotfix goes live. When that happens, follow the above instructions.
Its not ideal but at the least you can get hours into the game!

Coming back to this topic after a couple of months. I hadn’t tried the game at all since it kept crashing at the Moon Studios logo.
Today (January 1st, 2026) I played on the experimental build but was still crashing. Then I spent some time digging through the crash logs and noticed multiple entries saying “d3d11: failed to create 2D texture.”
Based on that, I decided to force -force-d3d12 in the Steam launch options, and that seems to have helped. I was able to play through the starting area for about 10 minutes, which is something I was never able to do before.
I’m hoping the team can deploy a more permanent fix, as I’d really love to play the Wicked Together update on January 22 with my partner.
On the LIVE version, applying -force-d3d12 doesn’t make a difference, game still crashes with or without it and i can’t play anything.
TLDR:
-force-d3d12 works on experimental and allows me to play the game finally
-force-d3d12 DOES NOT WORK on Live and game crashes as usual on the moon studios. Can’t figure any fix for this.
Just to clarify; you can already get to the main menu in Experimental without using -force-d3d12?
