With the new breach update is there any way the character creation screen could be changed to make and female, rather than body type 1 and 2? This is a weird trope in the last 5 years in gaming that I find very confusing.
Its not very confusing that some people that do exist, despite some efforts to make them insivible, want to have a little representation in the game they want to play.
I think its about time people start exercicing a little more empathy and compassion for minorities, instead of listening to sycophants online , usually religious ones, that live on hatred.
Live and let live, you choose the old adage, as long as they dont take your time hating people you dont even know, try to understand them more at least, and if you think this type of inclusion aint needed, you dont know how many people are dying for just being who they are.
I don’t find it confusing, though it is pretty pointless to erase male and female for the vast majority of people who do strongly identify with their sex in order to assuage a few who might take offense at two words that most people use without issue. Male and female are not dirty words. Words have meaning.
Anyone who looks at body 1 and body 2 knows the actual words describing what these bodies are. Body 1 and Body 2 stand as euphemisms. It’s still a de facto male/female physiognomy character selection. The character customization for body 1 and 2 clearly follow male and female secondary sex characteristics. Body 1 has the obvious male pattern baldness and the beards. Body 2 has the majority of long stylized hairstyles and smooth facial features and narrow jawline with wider hips and narrow shoulders. The result of being male/female.
For what it’s worth, the game at least seems pretty neutral in the selection screen, it is not actually defining the body types as body 1 and body 2 unlike other games.
And as long as the dialogue respects your identified sex instead of imposing the jarring “they/them” to avoid the expense of npc voice lines forking according to the sex of the character, most people won’t be annoyed. We have been playing games since the early 2000s with voiced dialogue reflecting the player’s sex. You can’t convince people that suddenly it’s a matter of budget to eliminate pronouns and impose a “they/them” dialogue that is stilted and unnatural to how most people speak to each other in the world.
Especially when you look at localizations with French or Spanish who then deviate from the forced “they” in dialogue that anglophones are subject to in recent game trends.
the community has analyzed so many topics that we’re now picking at there being numbers for genders because there’s just so little left
we are at rock bottom
just 10 more days
can we endure just a little longer
Not a troll, just a genuine difference of opinion. Doesn’t seem like it’s shared by others which is fine too :p. Just thought I’d ask.
Even though I understand the point of view of the minority of people that prefer type 1 and 2, I completely agree with you, there’s no point on having body type 1 and 2 if we all know it’s male and female. This exact same thing happened in lords of the fallen recently, where they changed type 1 and 2 to male and female because of a community vote about who would you rather play as, if I remember correctly, the results were (approximately) 50% male 40% female and 10% other type, and the community has greatly welcomed the change. But after all, the devs are the ones who decide what’s best for their game!
Yes I agree, but you are leaving out the 90% of people that feel more comfortable with male and female, for the 10% that feel more comfortable with type 1 and 2. It’s hard to keep everyone happy in this cases, maybe it would be better to have male/female/other type so everyone fells more comfortable. But changing something that most of the people are comfortable with just so the minority feels more comfortable, doesn’t seem right to me, but having something that makes everyone comfortable would be great.
i agree here. there is really no point in arguing about semantics. does it hurt if its called 1 and 2, or blue and red, or f and m?
the devs decided to name it type 1 and type 2. i really do not see any issue here, even if i tried to.
besides, type 1 and 2 is the most neutral option there is. so its already the option that most are comfortable with.
Yeah I also don’t care lol, but I’m just saying because there is people that care, that’s why I was saying to find something that pleases everyone
I certainly appreciate “type 1” and “type 2.”
You’ll get used to it - it’s not that hard.
Yes it does hurt the player experience as it breaks immersion if you identify as male and not type 1 or if you identify as female and not type 2. The same is true when the Apprentice addresses you as “they” regardless of your character’s gender. Many people identify with the characters they make and play for hours on end in RPG games and immersion is a big part of the experience. I am also aware that this goes both ways, if you suffer from gender dysphoria and can’t find a gender to identify yourself with within the game world.
However, the large majority of people and players still identify as male or female. Having male and female is actually neutral as these are biological sexes, not genders. Whatever your gender identity is subjectively, your biological sex remains objective. If they used man or woman, some people could talk about representation, but male and female is as logical and neutral as you can get on this issue.
This doesn’t matter to me personally, but it matters objectively and when have audience, you are responsible for the reverberations of your decisions.
This is a great game, a brilliant game, for me the game of the decade if they ever make good on all that they have promised to do and I wish that would keep gender politics out of it because in the long run, it will only hurt them and the game.
honestly, this sounds a lot like searching for conflict to me. i honestly haven’t even noticed that until this post showed up.
and i do not in the slightest see it as gender politics. even in games in the 90s we had character 1 and 2, if developers even gave an option. i think people should just stop searching for the tiniest breadcrumb to make a discussion out of it.
and i could bet if we made a poll and asked people if it hurts their experience if they click 2 or female or 1 and male, 99% of people would not care at all. i am female and again, i did not even notice how it was labeled. nobody is losing immersion during gameplay, because for a second during character creation there was a 1 instead of m. cmon.
lets not provoke anything here. calling people fascists is not really something u would say at grandmas coffee table either.
lets just all calm down. i think all has been said anyways
I’ll just say I’d far prefer they use Cerim if they want to refer to the player in dialogue rather than “they” when my character is right in front of them.
I’m sorry, but please stop gaslighting people. This is deeply unnatural and tortured dialogue. If a guy or girl is standing in front of people in a conversation, no one naturally in almost all of the world uses “they” in front of them in conversation. This is deeply stilted and jarring dialogue writing. Not even most of the anglophone world does that. They is used on a singular person when the sex of the person truly is an unknown, because the person has not been met or seen.
Don’t discount our character choices, which includes our chosen gender. Why is it that respect for preferred pronouns only goes one way, and it’s to a tiny minority of people? My character’s preferred pronouns are he/his by making a choice in the character creation. Please use them.
We had perfectly voiced dialogue all the way up to 2011 and the claim that somehow asking a voice actor to use he/him and she/hers in dialogue is too costly is just not convincing.
It doesn’t break immersion when a male character is standing in front of another, and he is referred to as “them”?
No?
Well OK then.
I’m willing to bet anything that you couldn’t define fascism without Googling it first genius.
this post was from OP about the character creation being type 1 and 2 instead of m and f. and everything has been said about this. if you are just here to argue about semantics and/or even provoke each other, then i will close this topic.
I agree. Type 1 and Type 2 is just sickness and people with identity issuess should get help and not popularize it. It’s not hate but reality. It’s defined as personality disorder and it’s not my opinion but fact. i wish EU and USA ban soon promoting disorders as smh positive.
it also break immersion and no one get anything positive about it. Even the non-binary people that are less than 1% of community but somehow game-dev trying to force ideology over reality and health.
And anyone opinion doesn’t matter against psychological science.
