I figured this change is in the spirit of the progression and power curve throughout the entire game. Gotta remember that this is only an incomplete act 1 out of who knows how many acts in the final game
The blacksmith will still sell you limitless amounts of tier 2 and tier 3 armours/weapons you can then take the enchanter. So it’s not entirely pointless to upgrade him
I don’t think so, honestly. When farming ressources we come across “salt stone” that I haven’t found any use for yet, as well as “granite”. We also could buy “birch wood” planks, which is a tier 3 ressource, but don’t have actual birch trees in the game yet.

Like you, I’m very depressed about the changes to the smithy.
Although blacksmiths can upgrade equipment, materials are very scarce and take a lot of time.
The game can be equipped by itself. But what comes out is the basic equipment.
You see, this is very contradictory, the blacksmith can sell high-level equipment but it is difficult to upgrade, but he can make his own equipment but it is the foundation, so what is the use of the equipment formula?
Is there a piece of equipment to be recovered in the future?Level 1 to copper?Level 2 to iron?Level 3 to silver?
People were asking for this change, and it was always the long term plan.
More immersion in the game world requires this. It was all too easy and mindless to do crucible runs, sell a ton of loot, have stacks of gold, and buy a truckload of refined materials to upgrade 100 weapons and armor sets.
I wouldn’t have minded refined materials sticking around a little while longer during EA to try out different weapons fully upgraded, but it had to go eventually.
Even in Elden Ring the highest-level crafting components were not sold by the vendor. You could get weapons +1-+9, or +1-+24 (if I remember right) but for +10 or +25 you had to go out and find a limited number.
No. In dark souls saga you can buy almost all type of titanite when you get the final upgrades for the seller.
You can´t take the highest titanite but only this for the final level of weapons.
I don´t understand why they delete all the bars. Copper and Iron could be and It wouldn´t be game changing because when you get it in final game is supposed to be at late game.
But here we are testing thigs like the crucible that is endgame content, and after leveling up 3 times the blacksmith this is like a joke not to get anything but a few weapons and armors that sure you have find early at game…
The only issue I see here is the rarirty of silver. Silver ore nodes are often out of the way and in limited supply. The material isn’t exactly common as a drop either. A number of items require 10 silver ingots a pop for upgrades. It’s a bit steep if the material is in extremely limited supply.
Perhaps a reduction to the silver cost for upgrades to items with silver requirements. Maybe take it a step further and shift them into progression through the material tiers like other items. Possibly both. Barring that, more access to silver nodes or the material itself.
It’s fine if you’re unable to visit the blacksmith and buy infinite silver ingots for upgrades. I’d even be on board with it. Regardless, I think something needs done to address the issue above. Unless I’m missing something here…
I agree, silver nodes are WAY too rare. On top of my head I just remember two nodes, one being in the alchemist cave, the other requires a bit of parkour in the Nameless Pass Mine. Are there any others?
This has put a hard wall on my new character. She can’t do crucible properly and would be lucky to find a handful of silver over 8 hours. That is a few upgrades a week to a casual player. At this rate we are looking at months to be fully upgraded…
While it’s definitely going to have a bigger impact, the Crucible so far seems well managable with a weapon that’s upgraded to the max of tier 2 - at least for me.
