Dear developers:
Sacrament is already home to many cats and dogs, making it a perfect foundation for a lightweight but emotionally rich animal companion system. This system would provide players with a sense of companionship and enjoyment during exploration, without disrupting combat balance.
Obtaining Companions Through Side Quests:
Animal companions could be acquired through small side quests. For example, rescuing a frightened dog from the plague zone, or finding an abandoned kitten in the ruins. This would deepen emotional engagement and make adoption feel meaningful.
Home Companionship:
Once adopted, cats and dogs can live in the player’s purchased house, turning it into a true “home.” They can freely roam and interact with the environment, bringing a sense of life to the space. For instance, most beds in the game currently serve a decorative purpose only—players could be allowed to rest in bed alongside their animal companions, increasing their bond. This mirrors what many real-life pet owners enjoy doing with their pets.
Feeding and Interaction:
Players can feed companions using food collected through exploration or hunting. There should be no hunger or maintenance meter, as that would feel exhausting. Feeding would simply increase affection and unlock new forms of interaction, keeping the system relaxed and non-intrusive to gameplay flow.
Exploration Companion (Dog):
Dogs can accompany players while exploring the map. They don’t participate in combat but can cheer from the sidelines and occasionally sniff out hidden resources or enemies (such as those buried underground), adding fun and surprise to exploration. To avoid disrupting gameplay, dogs would use a smart-following system:
When faced with inaccessible terrain like high ledges or ladders, they will automatically teleport and reappear after the player lands. During stealth or backstab moments, the dog will enter a quiet mode, staying at a distance without making noise or alerting enemies—ensuring zero interference with gameplay.
Non-Mandatory, No Stat Gains:
This system is entirely optional and provides no gameplay buffs or combat enhancements. It is designed purely for emotional depth and immersive companionship during the journey
