This happened to me twice. The first time was in Marin Woods. My wife and I got through about halfway before needing to take a break; up until then, this bug didn’t occur. After we came back, we noticed that for every enemy we killed, I would get twice the amount of XP than she did. We’re pretty picky about trying to make sure our levels were even with each other, so this became a source of frustration, because it was like she was being left behind (though I believe the bug is about me getting extra XP and not her getting less). The bug cleared when we left Marin Woods and started exploring Nameless Pass (we accidently went to Marin Woods first). Even when we went back to Marin Woods, the double XP thing stopped.
The second time happened in Lowland Meadows. Exact same thing. When we first got there, no problems. Got halfway, took a break and logged in, came back in, and all the sudden I was getting double XP. This might have persisted even after we returned to Nameless Pass again to wrap up the story; I’m not sure because we stopped paying attention since we just wanted to see the ending at that point.
We grabbed some screenshots to prove our point. One from both of us in the lumbermill right before fighting a big guy with two swords that does bleed damage, and one from both of us after killing him to show the XP gain discrepancy. This website is forbidding me from posting more than 1 picture here, so all 4 are in the Google Drive along with the log files. Capture1 and Capture 2 is the before/after on my end, which shows I gained 286. Capture3 and Capture4 is the before/after on my wife’s end showing she got 143, exactly one half of what I got. I want to clarify the issue was not with this one enemy, but every enemy we fought in Lowland Meadows once this bug started.
Based on the rhythm of how we were leveling previously, I really think the issue is me getting extra for some reason. I have never used an XP potion, and I have no enchantments or gems granting me extra XP. I checked like 10 times to make sure we weren’t going crazy. The fact it went away on its own the first time and I never switched gear when it happened should prove it’s not because I had some sort of buff. If the information helps any, I’m the one who originally created the realm. The fact it happened in both Breach areas might be a clue as to what caused this, or maybe it’s a coincidence.
Thanks ronin for the incredible comprehensive and detailed report! Very valuable because not many people would probably have caught this one (unless you are a duo who want to level up evenly!).
Would you please also stick your Datastore in that shared link?
I will escalate your findings into the proper channels.
I’m playing co-op with my friend, and he is earning way more xp than myself without any reason. He does not have any xp buffs or any gear boosting xp gain, we have looked through this a couple of times now. We take turns gathering resources too. We are always together, we do not run away from eachother killing different enemies. We always fight the same enemies and pick up the same xp orbs.
We were at level 19 both of us (I even had like a hundred xp more), and played for something like 1 hour, and my friend is one and a half level past me. I even put on a 8% xp buff ring, and he still gaining like three times more xp. The thing is that i don’t know if it’s me not earning enough xp or him earning way more. I’m no 100% sure, but the issue may start to occur when we are playing in the forest to the north of sacrament (where you need to thow spores on the meath blobs to get rid of the meat-spaghetti grass).
Hey Beluganator, can I ask was it you or your friend who created the realm? I’ve encountered this bug again, and depending on how you answer, there may be a clue as to where the bug is coming from.
Currently playing with 3 other friends right now with a new character than the one I used when this issue originally happened to me, and the friend who made the realm is the only one getting all the extra XP. In my original case, I was the one who made the realm. So maybe it’s an admin thing? Twice can just be a coincidence, but thrice is a pattern. So if your friend is the one who made the realm, maybe that’s where the bug is. If not…well, at least I know I’m not crazy and that this bug definitely exists lol.
My friend and I are having this exact same problem now that we’ve begun adventuring in Marin Woods. Like the other posters here, we are very mindful about staying even in our XP gains, taking turns on resources and what not depending on which one of us has pulled slightly ahead. But now in Marin Woods she is pulling further and further ahead with each kill, as she is earning double experience (or I am earning half).
As an example, we just killed three plague rats near a pond in Marin Woods and I earned 47 experience. She earned 98 experience.
I’ll also add that I originally created this realm, if that matters. And we tried to go to another region (the Nameless Pass) to see if that would resolve the bug as per the original poster’s experience, but it didn’t.
Seeing as this was reported all the way back in January and this bug is still present despite the patches and updates that have since been introduced to the game, are the developers actually aware that this problem exists?
Edit: One other thing, this bug began for us after we both leveled while in Marin Woods. As always, we leveled at the same time - meaning we had been progressing through Marin Woods without encountering this problem for some time because we try our best to keep our XP gains synced. That leveling-up occurred in the cellar area with the Warrick-the-Torn clone in Marin Woods. It was after we both gained our level that we began noticing that she was continuing to pull further and further ahead, as we do an XP check every time we come across a resource node to decide who grabs it.
In case additional information will help, this bug eventually stopped. Whether it will trigger again or not I don’t know, but yesterday we noticed (while we were still adventuring through Marin Woods) that we were earning the same amount of XP again and (with the help of me hogging all of the resource nodes we came across) we eventually managed to get our leveling progress back in sync.
I’ll just say that we tried a number of things to get the double-XP to stop: restarting the client, hunting in other regions of the game world, switching up which one of us loaded into the server first. None of it helped. The problem just eventually stopped (at least for now) for no apparent reason.
