Why do i need to offer items to unlock fast travel on a channel i've already opened?

hi :waving_hand:

i dont understand that mechanics, what does it balance ? it’s just boring and the amount of items you need to offer per channel makes it even more boring. why cant we just fast to all the channels we’ve already interact with ?

it recalls for me the lord vessel’s fast travel mechanic from the original dark souls, where you cant teleport to every bonfire, only to major ones or kind of starting point at a fork. in this game you can upgrade certain whispers to be able fast travel to them, and some “key” whispers will have it automatically. in my opinion it is a good economy balancing feature, when you have to spend some materials in order to unlock fast travel for needed travel point

imo it doesnt feel worth to sacrifice ~25 items (maybe more ? i’ve never complete one) for a fast travel point im gonna use maybe 1 or 2 hours

that the point, if you dont really need it, then dont bother, if you will need it more often then you spend some materials, like 63 mushrooms or so, in will be even easier in co-op. otherwise you can take a little longer route from already unlocked fast travel whisper

If you use fast travel as a general way of getting around, you will most definitely use any point you’ve opened more then 1 or 2 hours.

Most likely for returning to area’s to clear up bounties, do some materials farming or just having fun clearing the map. Pestilence outbreaks will also have you running all over Isola Sacra.

Keep on playing Cerim!

I agree: it feels bad, it feels like unnecessary friction, the offer system is unclear, …

It feels like a bug, and it’s not fun.

The Lord Vessel system was also dropped and nobody asked for it again. Imagine Elden Ring with the Lord Vessel system, yikes

Sounds like it would be better to just remove a bunch of whispers?:joy:

that would probably solve the fear of not maxing out everything in the game🤪

Fast traveling makes you lose interest of a game faster if its unlocked from the start, it might even lead to burnout.

Now you will have to work to unlock it thats atleast better because it makes you prioritize where its worth spending your resources.

(Sadly i almost never use the fast traveling in elden ring)

i don’t think making fast travels more simple make lose interest to player. in a open world game like skyrim i can understand that fast travels ruin the experience bc just by walking from a city to an another you can discover a lot things and it create micro adventures (in elden ring too) . but here it’s different, when you finish a zone, except a new faction who control that zone there is nothing new
