Whispers in multiplayer: unfun friction

We divided the group to scout locations faster. Then 2 of us found new whispers (that’s the name for waypoints right?) it’d say “Whisper unlocked”, but we couldn’t teleport to that location to join that person.

It feels like we’re missing an option to quickly group up again. Could be one of many options.

The options that I think make most sense (but there could be others) are:

  1. Last Epoch style: warp to player, no restrictions (PoE2 has a terrible version of this
  2. Diablo 1 style: Town portal with no restrictions to entry
  3. Free travel between whispers that are unlocked in the realm

The idea that you get free travel only after some offering (note: it’s completely unclear what we need to offer and what we get from that)

My suggestion: pick #3: unlimited travel between unlocked whispers. And the offering upgrades the whisper (eg an upgraded whisper heals you, a double upgraded whisper restores FP, etc)

Yes I agree, in fact I’m surprised that it doesn’t work like that, also because your friends can literally beat bosses without you and upgrade merchants without you and you can take advantage of the benefits instantly without doing anything so I don’t find any reason why you can’t go to the wispers that they have already unlocked/upgraded.

You can go to the whisper they’ve upgraded. You can’t directly go to a whisper they can’t directly go to though.

My group wasn’t particularly bothered by this, it became a sort of “expedition to go get Tom and bring him up here.”

If there was a location we wanted to be able to more easily access anyways we’d donate to the whisper instead and unlock it for the group.

Regarding the comments that you can just upgrade it: it’s also not clear in game what you need to offer to unlock it. Maybe that could help (in case we get enough of that resource)

You can offer anything. I agree it could use a bit more explanation.

Basically you’ll notice everything in your inventory has an item offer value (similar to how selling works but with a different “currency”). You just get 32 points worth (I’d often use some gear I was planning on selling or some resource I had gathered maybe too much of) to fill it up.

Thanks for explaining!

Honestly, I would’ve never come up with that

About whisper as I read somewhere (people suggestion or Dev concept, forget).
There is suggestion or concept, whisper need special item to upgrade into Elder Whisper. Which this item need to get via quest from villager or find hidden route like Finley’s key.

Yes it will give more restriction but seeing Level Design for this game, that make sense. Although would annoy different player as give hindrance in quick gather or get into places. For me, I’m always enjoy the scenery or little things on the way
