I just bought the game because it’s on sale during the Steam Spring Sale. I don’t plan on playing it until the breach content drops since it looks like that update will bring major core system and quality-of-life improvements. It felt kind of pointless to dive in so close to the update.
That said, I did launch the game just to see if my purchase was justified, to check if the fun gameplay from the YouTube trailer translates into the actual experience. I spent 74 minutes messing around and getting a feel for it, and I have to say, the gameplay is the real deal. Combat is super tight, which is impressive for an Early Access game.
Unfortunately, I did notice that mouse and keyboard (M&K) support is severely lacking. A Windows cursor? Ew. No full 360-degree character control? Ouch.
I did a quick search about M&K support and saw that many people were fine with the lack of it, arguing that “this genre is meant to be played with a controller.” I completely disagree. It’s not about the genre; it’s about whether the developers are willing to invest time in refining the controls for all peripherals.
I really hope M&K support improves in the next patch. At the very least, I’d love to see full 360-degree character control using the mouse — similar to how it’s implemented in Path of Exile 2.
you can still get that 360 control with kb+m tho. i never tried it, since i severely detest playing combat heavy games with kb+m but i can repeat what others said to a lot of people who felt the same:
you can move completely freely, you need some input from your kb but you can then walk/jump/run/attack towards your cursor. i hope some kb+m people jump in and help out here.
as for the custom cursor, the dev team is aware, and i am sure it will come at some point. there is a discussion about it here: PC version: Custom Cursor
you can already do full 360 just by letting go of WASD and pressing either shift or alt

useful for platforming and tightroping
also, the cursors have been painted, it’s just a matter of implementing them

I checked it again today and saw the setting. This is definitely the right direction, but it would be better if I didn’t have to hold down ALT. I should be able to use WASD to move and freely spin my character 360 with the mouse, just like in Path of Exile 2. If the devs could implement something like that, I’d be really happy. Pressing ALT to move the character to the cursor just feels clunky
I was hoping M&K would be better on this new patch but it seem to be the same.
I would suggest making a manual mode for M&K
It would turn off auto targeting, I feel like auto targeting is for controllers its like aim assist in an FPS its not needed for M&K
use WASD for Movement and the curser to turn/look/aim character like Poe 2 or V Rising
make all the abilities skill shots
The combat and movement can feel disconnected at time because the character not turning in the direction of the mouse curser, I know you can hold right click but that just feels off to do.
