The defense system is designed in such a way that promotes using either medium or heavy weight category and night light ( you will take too much damage).
Can light armour like cloth give certain defensive benefits such as evasiveness or more i-frame.
The light dodge has longer iframes, but unfortunately leather and mesh wearers can still get it with some marginal equip load investment and a ring.
Cloth armor also provides better elemental resistances, but it’s not enough of a difference that matters because the vast majority of lethal and constant damage is physical attacks. Occasionally a witch’s burning or a plague attack might be threatening, but it doesn’t happen enough to make cloth relevant.
And third, heavier armors give better poise, while lighter armors have no exclusive benefits you would expect, like better spellcasting economy and damage. In fact, a mesh wearer using a melee weapon can cast for just as much damage as a fragile cloth wearing mage, and their melee weapon does more damage than a wand or staff.
But they’re doing a combat update and a new class system that might shake things up and make cloth armor feel good in its own right instead of just being a budget armor until you get equip load to wear higher armors.
