u would get this by picking loot? so whats stopping u from picking loot from ur previous characters that is now in ur chests?
Interesting point. I assume you’re talking about playing with a new character in an existing realm where you leave items in the community chest or a chest at your house? If so, I guess the answer is yes, you would be able to use the cosmetic look of items from your previous character. But, of course, you can use the items from your previous character as well in that scenario, so why not be able to use their cosmetic as well?
well since thats the case is there any point of limiting cosmetics to character instead of the game itself? you can always move characters between realms and just give them cosmetics. And sicne thats the case, arent we back to original issue people had with transmog being available right away?
Considering its a primarily a one to four player game and not a massively multiplayer experience, it shouldn’t matter when the feature is unlocked or what players decide their characters would look like, because them and their friends are the only ones experiencing their choices.
I personally don’t understand why people would want the feature locked late in to the game. They could just not use the feature, because again, its primarily a solo and low player count coop experience.
This is also only if the devs decide to include said feature (which I think they should, its a staple of the rpg genre at this point)
I do think this whole topic is like at least a year to early to be discussed
feedback early is good! Lets them know the interest is there.
If you’re concerned about getting access to cosmetics at any time by moving characters between realms, then aren’t you also worried about getting the actual items themselves? For example, you can play 40 hours with Character 1 in Realm A and then start Character 2 in Realm B. But you can take Character 2 over to Realm B and grab a bunch of legendary gear from Character 1’s house and take it back to Realm B.
I would agree this is a bit strange and you could consider it “cheating”, but if you can move items between realms and characters (which is how the game currently works), then why not the cosmetics of those items?
Agreed! This is the early access period. Making suggestions and giving feedback is what it’s all about.
I dont have anything against it, I am saying that since thats exactly how it works there is no point in transmog to not be saved globally for all ur characters when u pick it with one of them. And I am trying to argue that theres no way to actually implement transmogs to not be shared on making a new character without it feeling exploitable and bad.
Why not make transmog a magic item. Like a disguise magic item.
You could get the item a bit later in the game and the beginning would still feel like you have to earn a cool look.
It would be an inworld thing and would not break immersion.
See @Cogigo reply. I think that’s a good way to do it.
I don’t want transmog system. I like a more grounded approach to this topic just personal preference.
Great idea! I’d prefer to be able to just swap appearances any time, but if we wanted something that was a little more restrictive I agree an item that’s obtainable later or requires a higher level to use would be a good way to do it. For example, a “transmutation potion” that lets you change the appearance of 1 item 1 time if we wanted it to be expendable. Or a “transmutation wand” would be permanent with infinite uses.
Would be interested to know what you mean by “grounded approach”. A transmog system allows players the option to change their gear’s appearance. You wouldn’t have to use it if you don’t want to.
I would use it if it was there. But I don’t wanna use it.
This would be like having a difficulty option. If there was an easy mode I would switch to it when I had too much trouble with a boss just to be done with it. But not having that option creates a better experience for me because I learn to overcome it.
Not exactly the same I know not having transmog wouldn’t change the experience that much but still I would not like to have access to it. I like how weird some of the armor combinations look and with transmog no one would look like that.
EDIT: Also I straight up do not like that you can look like a “assassin”(like light armor) but wearing the heaviest armor. Thats what I mean by grounded.
Coming back to the fact it is a 1 to 4 player game, you wouldn’t ever know those players were dressing like that outside of whatever pvp system they implement, which there are ways around that such as disabling it in pvp.
Like it would never cross your path unless you sought out like screenshots or something ha.
This is what intrigues me about people even being against the suggestion, its purely for an individual to use and see, it isn’t for others who won’t ever interact with their character.
I already explained why I don’t like transmog systems. You did not read it or something.
Here again: I would use it if it was there.
I like how weird some of the armor combinations look and with transmog no one (including me) would look like that.
Because you lack self control, you would gatekeep others experiences. That is a fascinating viewpoint, and I am going to be honest, kind of baffling.
Like would you genuinely switch to easy mode if given the option, would you have no fun doing that, yet do it anyway? I guess these are things devs have to take into consideration, but I doubt the vast majority of players would experience the same limiting factor. Thanks for helping me understand your stance, even if I personally find it utterly baffling.
I also find this stance baffling. Nice to see someone else who can reply to that in a measured and understanding way though =)
The item could maybe also be used in a quest where youhave to go undercover in an enemy lair/camp.
More organic inworld use.
