The game just Feels Worse

Stamina management feels off compared to the earlier release. Not enough stamina per level. Feels like I’m dropping all my levels into stamina for the first 10 levels.

Runes are not usable. They don’t feel good. Take too long to get and don’t do enough damage when I use them.

Poise seems off too compared to pre patch update. Not sure why but everyone requires a heavy attack to break poise and that’s a bit strange given there are often more than one enemies swarming. Weren’s weaker enemies staggerable without heavy hits?

The two hander from Warwick is so slow that it might as well be a neon sign to the enemy saying I’m open! Hit me!

Not trying to be mean. Love this game. Ran over to play the breach when it released. But it might need a bit of work before I can really enjoy it. Didn’t even get into any of the new stuff cause I was having a bad time with it.

Agreed. I’m kinda considering: do I play further so I can provide better feedback, or do I put it down because I’m actually not enjoying the game as it currently feels

Honestly runes feels so good. Pick up any magic weapon and use an aoe rune and everything fucking dies in one hit.

Poise and combat speed is definitely off.
A lot of weapons feel really bad. It’s weird to me that they want us to use Armor but it just WAY too cumbersome, it kills your movement, you can’t even dodge properly. You’re basically a sitting duck. I don’t know why games overdo the armor weight. In reality you can move just the same with armor than without it; of course in a game you want some kind of trade off, but the trade off here outweighs the pros in a overwhelming manner.

They do it because they want to innovate further than FromSoft. They just fail to see that FromSoft already perfected it, and the only acceptable direction to adjust towards (if adjusting it at all) is to make it more lenient, not more punishing.

If it would’ve been fun while making weight more punishing, FromSoft would’ve already adjusted it into that direction.

With respect to the real world movement speed implications of armor: you’re totally correct. It’s actually quite impressive to see that in real life, people sprinting etc in full armor, but it happens

Yeah im pretty sure FromSoft had a ton of science regarding poise. I don’t know if perfected it is the right way to look at it because poise can serve differently depending on the mechanics of each individual game. I think Animation speed, damage, resources, game pace, all these things together affect how a mechanic like poise works.
But yeah, I think the current iteration of combat is really bad, I honestly think the developers need to put a group aside that solely focuses on the combat flow because It’s not quite there. I understand that the animations are made in a way to be able to be communicated clearly from the isometric camera perspective but honestly it’s almost comical how slow a lot of the weapons are for the player and how absurdly fast and big others can be for enemies. It just feels off, and the player often has a ton of recovery frames which I find totally unnecessary.
Two handed swords are often made slow in fromsoft games, which is totally incorrect in comparison to real life and were even adjusted in Elden Ring on a specific patch making great swords faster because of how bad they were.
In no rest for the wicked, they are even slower than that. A weapon this level of impractical would simply not be used in any kind of martial combat period.

Anyway, won’t go on about it because I really think I have a lot to say but yeah, essentially the combat in the game feels way off right now and it should be the game’s main selling point.

As heavy weight you get access to heavy bash, which is so strong in so many ways and I think people are sleeping on that and just going light weight and just dodging and being too scared, which don’t really accomplish much.

I use a 2 handed curved sword and sure you can do some heavy damage and knockback some stuff but my god it’s SLOOOOW and some enemies simply don’t get interrupted so if you want to go on the offensive you get punished hard for it. Some enemies might even straight up kill you because armor damage mitigation as little as it is, it simply wont save you from a 2 hit combo or a rapid 5 hit uninterruptable attack.
The combat has become about waiting until the enemy does all his moves and get a hit in and repeat.

I very much disagree, I play hardcore and can tell you that investing into armour and life makes a big difference and you can actually tank a lot of hits. With heavy bash you can delete so many enemies by just pushing them off a cliff. And using it during normal fight is also not hard. So yeah I really disagree.

I’m curious to see how you play then because I’ve heard similar complaints to mine from other people.
The witches and niths in the quarry would delete you easily. I have pretty decent armor and poise It didn’t really matter when you get killed from a string of attacks you can’t interrupt.
The proof is that in the notes for the patch today it literally mentions that this was an issue and will be corrected.
Perhaps you’re relying too much on heavy bash, try other weapons and you’ll have a very different experience.

You either need to go heavy armor and heavy roll and use the roll bash to cheese enemies. Or go light roll and do the 1 hit tactics where you wait for enemy to do its combo and then you hit once and dodge… Either way it’s a boring and retarded gameplay loop. Oh another way is having a spear with a lot of range and also just do 1 hit and dodge, 1 hit and dodge, 1 hit and dodge. This changes and improves slightly as you level up and get access to enchants, but still early game combat is a broken mess. Most new players will give up before level 3. Uninstall and refund. They won’t sit through this until level 10-15 where they can finally build the character a little bit and evolve the combat style.

I agree, combat has lost something compared to the previous patches. Poise, hitstun, attacks feedback… Some things are just not as satisfying as they were.

Except runes, those still feel satisfying to me but I’m playing with a wand right now. Maybe it’s worse on melee weapons.

Yeah. Quicker weapons deal no damage and 2 handers are SUPER SLOW and use too much stamina. If you invest first 10 levels into stamina you deal literally no damage even if you upgraded your weapon. Atm you play the game by going pure (any stat, i´m intelligence) and hoping no one hits you because even with 200 health almost everything oneshots you with 40% armor and 65% all res at level 20. Only way you deal damage rn is with a dot and focus skills.

Purple items are unusable because the downsides are just way too strong to mitigate anything with. Or you need to have some kind of divine luck to actually drop something that doesn´t break your build. A lot of the monsters (especially the fking bird guys) are so jacked on Adderal that you have literally have no break to hit with 2 hander in between their attack sprees. When they are not swinging or in the air they literally spawn another one on top that doesn´t drop any loot or give exp.

I agree that the wand feels good. When i can earn enough to cast the rune. But i cant do a heavy with wands and cant stun so it feels like a misquito thst suddenly blasts blood out of his nose.

Right?! Am i the only one who noticed that the drop rate for enchanted items is vastly diminished? Id settle for cursed items at this point but as you said they are strangly buffed so as to anger you rather than make you cope.

Reply to TasoM:
The game doesn’t really reward getting a heavy armor (and since normal weight is bugged it too) and going “naked” and having a big bonk weapons feels just right since dodge works just fine and you can get more than 1 hit in. Also the bash I did try it and only works on regular enemies big guys and bosses doesn’t get affected unless it’s a bug

They fixed Medium rolling atleast nwo

Yeah that seems like an oversite since i played tank till i made it to the risen boss and had to change my playstyle. Which alao meant forgoing bonuses id put on the armor.

Runes have been become pointless, the take forever to power up, they dont highlight , between the runes and the Focus bar its just not visible enough, not excitign when you have them lit and the damage is pointless,
currently just ignoring and playing with the weapons.

Terrible compared to previous release

In my humble opinion and experience I didn’t feel it. I just booted up the game, geared up and didn’t feel any changes. They might be but I just don’t feel it (might be that im biasd rn from trying fast build and working wonderfully)
