Silver Tools are WORSE than Iron Tools

Currently, players are punished for upgrading their tools. Silver Tools are WORSE than Iron Tools! We can make this better…

Example:
An Iron Axe and Silver Axe both take two perfect hits to fell a Spruce Tree (iron tier). If you miss one hit, however, the iron axe has an extra (third) chance to drop double wood, while the silver axe would have prematurely chopped the tree before you earned the second wood. This is a punishment for those who upgrade their axes.

Assuming you miss just one hit, weaker tools are better.
Iron axe will get TWO wood but the upgraded version, Silver axe, only gets ONE wood (because it prematurely chops the tree down). Since majority of the damage is done with a perfect chop, rewarding the player with the same two wood as an iron axe seems like the reasonable outcome, whereas the current state players are punished for using the stronger tool.

Let’s give two resources for gathering over 50% of the node HP through “perfect” strikes.

Having not crafted Silver Tools myself yet, this is a bit alarming! Especially as my ability to hit Perfects varies from minute to second. Argh.

Is it not perhaps a risk reward situation though? In order to maximise payout your difficulty curve has increased a bit? As annoying as it is, I do wonder if the reward potential on Silver Perfect execution does not outweigh what one gets with Good on Iron?

This sounds like a bug. Can you potentially clip this and show us?

Silas

it isn’t a bug perse, i think. unless this is already a thing. what he is saying is that if you hit 2 perfect strikes you get 2 wood, if the iron axe misses once you still get a chance to perfect hit for the second piece of wood. but if you miss the second hit with a silve axe you onjly get 1 wood becouse you don’t get a chance to hit the second perfect strike.

does that make sense?

i do not have a silver axe, but i can show you an example of hitting 2 perfect strikes vs 1 perfect strike.

there is a small chance of it dropping 1 instead of 2 but usually if you miss you still get 2 if you hit perfect a second time wich you cannot do with the silver axe.
(also this issue may also exist with the pickaxe)

VS T2 nodes, there is no risk vs reward. When you use an iron axe, you can still clear the tree in two attacks. the silver will also clear in two attacks, and doesn’t help at all.

VS T3 nodes, swap to silver for convenience. You get 6 tool slots so remove one temporarily if you need to. The nodes are split around the map, so this quick trick takes 5 seconds and gets you a lot more wood. The game has no reason to reward players for swapping to a lower tier tool, and yet this is the current state. If the nodes were very randomized, then we can argue “risk for convenience” because carrying silver would be popular. Unfortunately for that argument, we know when we enter a T2 dense area and can easily swap to iron.

Let’s be real, this is unintentional and the reason for the feedback. If we are meant to be punished for using stronger tools, so be it. This is to raise awareness and let them decide.
