I like polearms, especially spears. Here some feedback on Sacrament’s Sin.
Sacrament’s Sin (16 dex, 16 faith) and its current moveset:
- Attack 1 - Lunge forward into heavy thrust
- Attack 2 - Quickly advance with a light thrust
- Charge Attack 1 - Charge then lunge forward into a heavy thrust
- Charge Attack 2 - Cannot charge Attack 2
- Running Attack - Same as Attack 2
- Rolling Attack - Quick thrust
The theme of this spear should be sturdy and semi-technical as it’s the spear of Sacrament’s finest defending their home. To that end, I think the stat requirements and scaling should be:
Strength: 14, D scaling
Dex: 12, D- Scaling
There is no faith component to the spear, so it doesn’t make sense for faith requirement or scaling (although if it did, you still need the strength component. By the way, you’re allowed to have more than 2 attributes on gear and not all required attributes need scaling.).
This spear’s more technical aspects, like most standard spears, is about spacing then finding the right moment for an aggressive and committed strike. It’s this moment you give up your spacing advantage for aggression. The problem is almost every attack has me lunging forward.
Here are my proposed moveset changes:
- Attack 1 - Medium thrust
- Attack 2 - Medium thrust (Can vary slightly)
- Attack 3 - Step forward with heavier thrust
- Charge Attack 1 - Charge then step forward into a heavy thrust (same as Charge Attack 1 now)
- Charge Attack 2 - Charge then medium thrust
- Charge Attack 3 - Charge into heavy thrust finisher
- Running Attack - Quickly advance with a light thrust (unchanged)
- Rolling Attack - Quick thrust (unchanged)
These moveset changes would allow much needed control over my actions giving a variety of attacks and combos to punish small, medium, and large attack windows. It preserves a lunge on Charge Attack 1 when needed, but allows a strong punish with no lunge doing Attack 1 > Charge Attack 2.
Furthermore, the scaling changes allow this to be either an early game weapon one would discard for higher scaling options later or an effective base damaging scaling weapon to use with heavy gear and buffs.
