Runes and parries

It would be nice, since parry is such a huge (and lovely) thing in NRFTW, to see some runes that start with or use its mechanics.

Using the runes launches the parry:
-on failure, the punish is longer than a standard parry / resource is consumed anyway
-on success, the move is triggered

ex:
-succeed a parry to use
-“x” successful parries in the last x seconds required to use, reset x seconds later if not
-force launched on the third parry after activation since last x seconds for a double-edged type

There are some runes which have iframes/dodge attacks, so close to what you are asking for. Still like the idea.

I would love runes like that! The risk–reward and timing aspects would make these runes more interesting to me than high-DPS flurries or guaranteed knockdowns. Some ideas for runes:

  • deals more damage if an attack would have hit during its i-frame window (especially appealing as a forward-step on a heavy weapon);
  • cost refunded or recovery time reduced if timed well;
  • can be used immediately after a successful parry with more damage/lower cost;
  • costs stamina and has a bonus effect, perhaps repositioning behind the enemy if executed correctly (Dragon’s Dogma daggers), more parry frames, or generating extra focus similar to small-shield parries.

I could see some of these as class runes on fencer- or assassin-type classes.
