At the moment stunning enemies doesn’t feel very rewarding unless you have a rune spamming build that keeps the opponent stun locked, once that infinite focus build is fixed maybe there should be a riposte attack similar to dark souls, an attack that can deal more damage to the boss when you parry it or stun it or at least make it so you deal extra damage when they’re stunned
I could just use a charged attack, but why risk parrying and taking damage when I can just dodge and charge an attack
So Thomas Mahler mentioned that they originally had a traditional riposte, but felt that system locked players into doing the same thing over and over. Thus, they decided to make it so that parrying rewards a ton of focus so you can choose how to punish. Between that and the fact it’s actually really easy currently to go to an enemy’s back and backstab them, I’d say it’s a good start.
However, I did also see him mention that they are looking into finisher animations (I think!), so that could be another addition that helps.
i agree that parrying with shield and weapon should be different functions. with weapon the enemy could get stunned like it already do for a litle of time but with shield you could make a continuing attack to make a critical attack similar to backstab (skeleton head icon appear).
or maybe when parry with weapon would take more stamina than parrying with shield, because i think shield should have something special other than blocking normal attacks
