Respeccing: A Case for Iona's Cavern / Trial of Rebirth

(I know a whole new class system is coming, but let’s be real. When is that going to drop? next year?)

The Problem

Since the new Update Fallen Embers don’t drop that often anymore. in the last 50 hours i think i dropped around 20, say 30 to be generous. and that was endgame.

And even worse, they have 3 purposes now:

  1. Rerolling Enchantments
  2. Being the only Item that can reroll Plagued Downsides
  3. Respeccing

Now let’s just take a look on this very likely scenario on how i could’ve used my Embers:

  • 1/3 is used on rebirthing ONCE
  • 1/3 is wasted on rerolling ONE plagued downside, and
  • another 1/3 is gambled on ONE Enchantment we probably didn’t get. (Trust me, very likely scenario)

Doesnt sound that great, does it?

The Solution

So how about we relieve the Fallen Ember of its respeccing duties and use something else?
Maybe that one thing that everyone only touches once (if at all), which even then is annoing af? Yeah exactly, you know what I mean: The perfect respec Opportunity.

Introducing Iona’s Cavern

After using it once, noone will enter that cavern EVER again. In fact even the whisper there only exists so you can teleport to town, in case you hit a brickwall at the “parkour”

So how about we give it some meaning?

  • Do one “parkour”
  • be completely respecced or “rebirthed”
  • come back when you think you really, really REALLY have to do that sh*t again.

Even better:

  • You have to do it intentionally, it doesn’t just accumulate on the side
  • You can do it anytime
  • You can repeat it as often as you like, given you enjoy the 2-5 minutes of parkour. Did a mistake at respeccing? learn through pain and do that filthy thing again.

And it actually adds a bit of Pazzaz, where for every other game its just a gold or item sink. here:

  • You go run and climb through hardship AND
  • You have an amazing symbolic dive into a new life at the end

aka PEAK RESPEC GAMEPLAY!

Of course some details need to be adjusted, a couple of new lines and introduction to it, yada yada. But everything is already there.
